"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Indiana PA, MONDAY Q&A Elks' exalted ruler reveals secrets of thriving social club - 0 views

  •
    Great interview Debbie. Thanks!
  •
Question: How long have you been an Elk and how did you begin to rise through the ranks of Elkdom? Answer: This is my 11th year. As an Elk, if you are married, your spouse can go in (the club) all the time with you. But I did not have a male who was a member, so I had to join as a female as a member of the lodge. I had a friend of mine propose me, and that's how I became an Elk. I joined Dec. 21 of '98 ... and there was a change of officers (that year). We had no chaplain that year. And I had a dream in the shower that I'm going to be the next chaplain. Dave Myers was the exalted ruler at that time. It was a couple of weeks later, I was sitting at the club, and he (tapped me on the shoulder), and I turned around and said, ``Yeah, I'll do it.'' He said, ``What?'' I said, ``I'll be chaplain.'' He said, ``How did you know.'' I said, ``I dreamed I was going to be your next chaplain.'' I was chaplain for six years. I was appointed by six different exalted rulers.

a Wassom has gotten used to Michelle Kelemen's daily visits to her tidy yellow kitchen in North Boise. On a recent afternoon, Kelemen, a driver for the Senior Nutrition program, or Meals on Wheels, dropped off a hot tin of cheese ravioli and fruit crisp, with a salad on the side. Kelemen brought in the newspaper. She loosened the lid on a bottle of Ensure nutrition drink for later, and chatted a bit with Wassom before leaning over to give her a hug.

46 veterans hosted last week by members of St. Joseph Elks Lodge 541 - 0 views

Arthur Robinson is a big man, and when he laughs, the area around him seems to light up. Robinson had caught a 6-inch perch, his first fish of the day, and when I told him to "hold that monster up" for a photo, he broke up laughing. The fishing was slow, but no one could say we weren't having a good time on a beautiful summer day. Robinson, who lives in Muskegon Heights and was a C-130 transport plane crew member in Vietnam, was one of 46 veterans hosted last week by members of St. Joseph Elks Lodge 541 for a day of food, fishing and fun. The vets are all patients at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Battle Creek. The Elks rounded up 16 local boats, some run by charter fishermen and others by sport fishermen, to take the vets out. All volunteered their time.

The summer golf calendar is filled with a myriad of benefit tournaments, but only a handful encompass such a worthy cause as the Arizona Elks Association Social Welfare Clothe-a-Child event. All the proceeds are used to purchase clothing for needy and disadvantaged children. "This is a statewide program, some of our clubs do it (donate clothes) at Christmas and some before the first day of school," said tournament chairman Becky Waer. "We do it through the schools, so it is kind of a confidential thing."

The End of the Elks: Why Lodge No. 201 Is No More | | Austin Post - 0 views

  •
What a tragedy as there are no winners here. Losing this lodge is a tremendous loss for the Elks and gives the Order quite a public black eye. Hopefully the remaining members of the Austin lodge can keep the facility. Even if they do win in court though it will be quite a struggle to regain the former membership, become financially stable and remain a viable non-profit for the long term. I wish them the best of luck. They will need it.

It's a scene that has played out for decades inside the Beverly-Salem Elks Lodge, where the 89-year-old Denault has been a member for 29 years. It's also a scene that's about to end - at least the part including Denault's pipe.
