"Dirigió la Escuela Nº 23 de Flores desde 1997 hasta su jubilación, en 2012. Ahora convirtió en libro esa experiencia. La incorporación de los chicos que siempre quedaban afuera, las resistencias de las maestras a los cambios, cómo abrir la escuela a la comunidad. Ese es el nombre que eligió el maestro Enrique Samar para titular un libro que recoge la experiencia de un proyecto educativo transformador, que llevó adelante en la Escuela Nº 23 del distrito escolar 11 de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. ¡Whipay! Defendiendo la escuela pública con educación intercultural y prácticas alternativas es un libro peculiar, porque quienes enseñan no suelen escribir lo que hacen y porque está pensado para inspirar a quienes educan. Para que no haya que empezar siempre de cero. Y para que se repliquen experiencias como ésta donde la escuela se mostró "hermanada", como le gusta decir a Samar, con el barrio y otras instituciones. Todo eso, sin una visión edulcorada ni idílica de la educación. -¿Qué hacían sus padres? -Mi papá era de la Marina. En la década del 60 renunció y pasó a la Marina Mercante. Después trabajó en inmobiliarias. Era egresado del Buenos Aires. Mi mamá trabajaba de ama de casa. Soy el mayor de cuatro hijos, dos varones y dos mujeres. Siempre me pregunto cómo hacía con cuatro. -¿Donde se crió? -Vivimos unos años felices en City Bell cuando tenía calles de tierra. Recuerdo una infancia tan distinta a la de la ciudad de Buenos Aires de ahora. Los juegos preferidos eran treparnos a los árboles, andar en bicicleta por las calles de tierra hasta la plaza, jugar al fútbol, de vez en cuando jugar con un barrilete. No existía la televisión.
