It also makes it clear where their salary comes from. It can be as simple as putting everyone on commission, or paying people for each job that they do. You can even give your employees a percentage of the net profits. If your catering sales people's salaries are based on the company's sales, they have a vested interest in increasing sales and improving customer service. If your catering sales people see this direct correlation between the sales they make and the money they earn, sales will definitely rise. Sometimes, employees will work extra hours. They may come in on their 'day off' or work extra hours in order to bring their commission dollars up. Commission can motivate your catering sales people! Partnership pay also motivates catering sales people to offer superior client service. Their attention and attitude often changes if they have more of a vested interest. Clients will give repeat business and refer your restaurant or catering business if they are properly taken care of by your catering sales people. That brings in more money for the company and for the employee handling the sale. These employees learn quickly that it's a lot easier to have repeat clients than to try to establish a relationship with a new client. This becomes a drive within your employees that motivate them to do well, and continue doing well. This kind of pay is not for everyone in the restaurant catering business. It takes self-motivated, self-reliant people to make it in this type of environment. It makes people more responsible for themselves and the work that they do.
