    A rectangular pizza, 40 cm by 60 cm, is cut into 24 square pieces. Two round pizzas, each cut into 12 slices, also give 24 pieces. So that the pizzas are the same size, what must be the diameter of the round pizzas?
  • anonymous

    Area of the rectangular pizza = 40 x 60 = 2400
    Area of the round pizza = 2400

    2400 = pi x r²
    = 2400 = 3.14 x r²
    = 2400 / 3.14 = r²
    = 764.3 = r²
    r = √764.3
    ∴ r = approximately 27.64cm
    d = approximately 55.28cm

    Area of rectangular pizza = 60 x 40
    = 2400

    Area of 2 round pizzas = 2400

    Area of a Circle = r x r x 3.14

    2 (3.14 x r x r) =2400
    3.14 x r x r =1200
    r x r = 1200/π
    r = √381.972
    r = 19.54

    Diameter = 2(19.54)
    = 39.08
