How hosting providers can battle fraudulent sign-ups - Black Hawk Online Games - 1 views

"Hosting providers are increasingly asking Spamhaus how they can prevent so-called "fraudulent sign-ups" - new customers whose only intention is to spam, host malware, host botnet controllers, or engage in other activities that are forbidden by the hosting provider's acceptable use policy (AUP). Such customers normally target cheap VPS and cloud hosting with automated sign-up procedures. These customers know that their accounts will be terminated swiftly when the host becomes aware of their activities, so they usually use stolen credit cards or compromised Paypal accounts to obtain service. This allows them to hide their real identities and avoid spending their own funds. Spamhaus has received several independent reports from hosting providers that the volume of such fraudulent sign-ups has increased dramatically in the past few months. Some hosting providers report that 50% of all new subscriptions are fraudulent - every second subscription. No hosting company is immune, neither small local operations nor large multinational hosting firms with data centers on several continents. While Spamhaus' mission is to protect internet users and organizations from spam and other cyber-threats, we lack the resources and time to act as an abuse reporting service (FBL - Feedback Loop) or a consulting company. However, we would like to do what we can to help. This article provides some tips to help hosting providers prevent fraudulent sign-ups and increase the detection rate for such sign-ups. These tips are not a solution, but should help mitigate the damage and administrative costs caused by criminals.  Verify User Information First, create and implement a verification mechanism for automated sign-ups. It should verify at least some personal information from new subscriptions. Black Hawk Online Games Microsoft is urging reset on policies related to its Xbox One v... - 2 views

Two major features of Microsoft's next-generation console are dropped by the company. These are regular online authenticity checks required to play video games offline and restrictions on what players can do with games after purchase. Microsoft says, in an update issued Wednesday, the shift in Xbox One policy stems from consumer feedback. "While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content," Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft's Interactive entertainment business, said in a statement. "We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds." The Microsoft statement says no internet connection will be required to play any Xbox One game. Also, avenues for trading, renting, lending or selling purchased games will remain as they are today with the Xbox 360. Microsoft outlined how its Xbox One would function when it launches this November for $499; this move marks a full turn for Microsoft from several weeks ago. In earlier statements, Microsoft said users would have to check in online every 24 hours to play any games offline. Microsoft also planned the inability to rent or lend games at launch as limits to how games were used. Sony, a well-known rival will be launching its PlayStation 4 this holiday, the options provoked harsh criticism from them. Sony Computer Entertainment of America President Jack Tretton emphatically proclaimed during a press conference at last week's Electronic Entertainment Expo that the PS4 would not restrict games or require routine online checks. "You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc," Mattrick said. "The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you." Nonetheless, the Family option to share a games library with as many as 10 other people

BLACK HAWK REVIEWS - ONLINE GAMES: SPACEWAR! REMAKE AFTER 50 YEARS MIT students celebrated the golden anniversary of Spacewar! - which is one of the first video games in history - by recreating it on a computer that can be handled on the palm of your hand. Four students of MIT began creating the game Spacewar! during their free time in 1961 and finished it in February 1962. It was built on the Digital Equipment PDP-1, a computer unit around the size of an ordinary refrigerator. The game features two spaceships attempting to shoot each other down, with one of the spaceships under the control of the player. Massachusetts' engineering students showcased their work at the museum of MIT. This process of turning a 50-year old game to a modern one is almost likened to digital archeology. It must be difficult to port it into a modern programming language for it is very low-level considering the time it was created. In addition to that, it used a lot of tricks specific to the machine it was first built on due to the limitations they had on the software. The students transferred the software to the Arduino platform, a microprocessor the size of handheld gadget. The game was not really meant for commercial purposes but only for the enjoyment of the creators. In fact, majority of Americans barely had access to a PDP-1 at that time. During the 1970′s it became a commercial success when it appeared in arcade platforms and personal gaming consoles like the Atari 2600.

Black Hawk Mining Bulletin Articles: Aus Mining Continues Growth - Topix - 0 views

A recent survey conducted in Australia shows that although their mining sector is enjoying a boom, services sector is in an opposite condition. Most of the contraction was caused by a decline in new orders among the various players in the services sector while sales and prices also fell. Just 2 out of 9 sub-sectors (namely, personal and recreational services and finance and insurance) included in the survey has grown during the month. The increased activity in the mining sector is not positively affecting the remaining sectors of the local market. The chief executive of the Australian Industry Group (AI Group) said that the contraction in the services industry just shows how narrow is its base of development in the broad market. Several stability in financial states abroad in a period of few months will be favorable for allowing consumer and business confidence to improve, resulting in a gradual increase in spending. More than half of the world's mining acquisitions in 2011 has involved projects located in US, Australia and Canada. Other buyers include China, India, Russia and Brazil, all of which increased their acquisitions by 42% since 2006. In terms of gold, the average deal is valued at USD 41 million where a premium is almost 50%. Propelling the lucrative market is Australia with 15%, United States with 14% and Canada with 49%. Considering the bigger picture of the industry, PwC seems to be expecting that this year will see record M&A valuations and volumes in the mining sector worldwide. According to the company, sovereign wealth funds tend to have more advantage in winning transactions because of their low cost of capital. PwC is assuming that non-miners like sovereign wealth funds, large pension funds and private equity might reassess their approach to the industry and begin to participate more in M&A.

Gamer proposes with four-hour role-playing game With this game, I thee wed. - 1 views

http://reviews.blackhawkmines-online.com/2013/05/10/gamer-proposes-with-four-hour-role-playing-game-with-this-game-i-thee-wed/ There have been many various wedding proposals prepared via video game modifications. Here is another whole new level of proposal, actually building a game from scratch for the sole purpose of asking for someone's hand. That's a new level altogether, romantic indeed. Marchaka, a Redditor, has a pretty ideal girlfriend a gamer would want to have in Michele, as the two shares a serious love of video games. That made him think and got then wheels on his head thinking when he decided to pop the question. Marchaka used VX Ace a $70 role-playing game maker and then he built Michele's Quest. Michele's Quest is a Final Fantasy-style title that consists of four acts and four boss battles. After successfully completing each act, the player, Michele, Marchaka's girlfriend, is rewarded with an image showing the location of a real-world key. Sitting next to the computer Michele played on was a chest with four locks. When she arrive at the fourth was unlocked, there was a note reading "turn around," where she saw Marchaka on bended knee with the ring. Not to any surprise, she said "yes." Marchaka has only little programming experience. It took him over 160 hours to build the game, which is filled with in-jokes, humor and loads of video game references. And lest you think Marchaka spent the four hours, it took Michele to complete the game standing over her shoulder. He even managed to plan ahead for that unforeseen event as well. "We had some guests over and so I tried to downplay it by cooking a big dinner for everyone," he said. "I spent most of my time in the kitchen but how the place is designed I can see the computer from there. The guests pulled up chairs next to her and chimed in with commentary and jokes…took any tension out of it until the big moment." Marchaka's proposal has resemblance and can make you think back to Gary Hudston's
