Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), like anything else, has its share of backers who see its benefits. It also has its share of experts who feel ITIL is not all it is made to be. In these recessionary times, anything that can help a company save money is seen as tremendous advantage. One of the important things to ITIL solutions is good answer is its utilization leads to cost-saving.

Yet another advantage is it will help particular IT divisions to organize and handle many things using just one comprehensive volume, keeping in mind ITIL is actually a set of books which manage various factors of IT. The advantages are there for all to see again and again, ITIL solutions has been proved to work. In addition, it has been tried and examined in every part of the world under different environments.

But as with everything, there are some disadvantages to ITIL. However, in all equity, the benefits by and huge outstrip any criticisms. One is that most people involved in IT see ITIL as offering a holistic approach to IT management and it is the be-all and end-all of any solutions relevant to information technology.

However, even the ITIL marketers don't agree saying it is not totally comprehensive, meaning there is scope for even further improvement.

Another complaint, more frequent among the junior positions, is that IT supervisors take ITIL as gospel from which no deviations can take place. This, the experts claim, means some solutions that they believe they could or should have used are being side stepped in favor of whatever ITIL says should be done. Many of these solutions which are being avoided are also business-specific which could mean the company profits are increased.

Yet another meat with ITIL is some topics relevant to IT are covered in-depth while others are not comprehensively covered, major to an unevenness. Others also say that ITIL only looks at a very little part of IT, which is a very capturing sector.
