"The Communication Matrix is an assessment tool designed to pinpoint exactly how an individual is communicating and to provide a framework for determining logical communication goals. It was first published in 1990 and was revised in 1996 and 2004 by Dr. Charity Rowland of Oregon Health & Science University. It was designed primarily for speech-language pathologists and educators to use to document the expressive communication skills of children who have severe or multiple disabilities, including children with sensory, motor and cognitive impairments."

"The Targets and Activities Project (TAP) website has been set up to allow Speech and Language Therapists, Language and Communication Teachers and others to share ideas with those working with children with communication difficulties in schools and other locations. On this site you will find activities sheets for working with children at a variety of different levels and across a variety of curriculum and skill areas. The site uses the P-scales and the lower levels from the National Curriculum as a means for organising these documents in a way which should make them easy to find. These documents use a simple standardised format to make them easy and quick to read. TAP sheets are especially designed to be used by education staff - such as learning support assistants - who have had guidance from the appropriate specialist."

On this website you will find books that have been adapted using the Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) and the Mayer-Johnson program BoardMaker (c). The Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) are typically used by individuals who have difficulty being understood verbally or have severe difficulty with reading and writing. If you have your own copy of the book, we have files that allow you to print the symbols that we used to adapt the books. These PCS can be cut out and glued into your own book so that you can read the adapted book again and again to your child or students. All files with symbols were created using Boardmaker Version 5.0.10 and require you to have that program loaded onto your computer into order to access these files
