YouTube has a firm place in the current classroom. From Khan Academy's videos to YouTube EDU and beyond, there's a reason all these videos are finding a home in schools. In an effort to help keep the ball rolling, Google just launched a set of 10 interactive lessons designed to support teachers in educating students on digital citizenship. A topic obviously quite close to Google's heart. Google (which owns YouTube) built the lessons to educate students about YouTube's policies, how to flag content, how to be a safer online citizen, and protect their identities. Below is a list of lessons, and the recommended flow for delivery. Lessons are designed to fit within 50 minute classes, but can be adapted to fit your schedule:

Although most homes have video games there's been a lot of resistance to them entering the classroom, but that's changing as teachers recognise their educational benefits.

Wow what a great chrome extension. This looks like a great tool for all writers. I especially like the 'collect highlights' tool. Make sure you watch the accompanying video to see how it works.  Read&Write for Google Docs is a cool extension I found on Web App Reviews that can benefit ELLs and struggling readers. The extension provides you with a special toolbar on the top of your Google documents.

Fantastic short video about where ideas come from which touches on what the creative thought process might look like. 

Over the last month I've shown the picture that you see to the left during a number of presentations and workshops. I've used the picture to model using pictures to spark students' minds at the beginning of lessons on search strategies. This is a strategy that I've developed by borrowing ideas from Daniel Russell's Search ReSearch activities and Dan Meyer's strategy of using videos and pictures to prompt students to ask math questions.

Electronic portfolios are gaining so much popularity among teachers and students. Their easy accessibility and availability anywhere anytime make them really worth trying. There are actually several web tools that you can use to create digital portfolios and I have already reviewed some of them in this post, however, today I am sharing with you an excellent video tutorial from EdTechTeacher on how to use Google Drive as a portfolio solution in iPad classroom. Thinkers Keys Welcome to an exciting framework for the teaching of thinking to young people. The Thinkers Keys are twenty powerful strategies for generating quality thinking in many learning situations. They were written explicitly for 8 to 14 year-olds, although we have often found them being used in classrooms of 5 year-olds, and also in senior school and university environments. Here's a 2-min video about the electronic Thinkers Keys.

"Australia's communications regulator has today launched its new cybersafety videos, #GameOn, to classrooms across the country. The Australian Communications and Media Authority says #GameOn is a series of five intertwined stories that follow a group of school friends who find themselves in situations that catch them off-guard and show them the consequences of making poor decisions online. The stories, which are targeted towards 8- to 12-year-olds, tackle topics including cyberbullying, excessive gaming, sharing passwords, free downloads and online friends."

John Carty discusses what an anthropologist does. Isn't this what we want our student to do? To become historians and or anthropologists and inquire into the cultural aspects of the first Australians.

Another indigenous film maker discussing the creative process and how it links in with his indigenous culture 

Just had a play around with this one. It seems really easy to use and the templates are great. Animations can be easily exported to youtube or powtoon site to be shared. Easy sign in with Google account would be great for grade 3-6 students.

This would be a great launch for a space unit.
