    Describes how ExxonMobil funded "research" to create a false illusion of debate within the scientific community on the topic of global warming. Clearly, the firm's private interest as a major polluter inspired this creation of false disagreement and false information.

    Definitely an example of the negative influence that authority can have over our perception of the truth, as it can cloud or ability to understand facts. This is especially valuable as it provides an example away from the media as well as marketing companies, and now focuses on corporations that may be biased in presenting information. We seem to have a good grasp of examples show how authority can negatively influence our perception, and should look for how it positively can impact our perception of the truth as well, such as in teachers in the classroom.
