Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is arguably an embarrassing problem. Those who suffer try to find a solution so that they don’t feel awkward by discussing with someone else.

Under arm hyperhidrosis not only causes discomfort from drenched armpits, it puts stains on your shirt, and releases unpleasant body odour.

There are plenty of treatments available and few of them which have recently gained popularity for their effectives in treating hyperhidrosis.

If you don’t want underarm hyperhidrosis to bother you anymore, try out any of these treatment options which you may find convenient to have. All these treatments are available in the UK.

    Topical Antiperspirants

This is the first step you can take to manage sweating. You can either purchase them from a local shopping store or seek advice from a dermatologist who would suggest you to have a prescription antiperspirant. But remember one thing, antiperspirants or deodorants do not stop excessive sweating. Instead, they confine your sweat to its duct within the skin. Main ingredient of Topical antiperspirant products are aluminium salts. Few short term side effects of these include skin irritation and prickly heat sensation.

    MiraDry

It’s a relatively new and advanced form of non-surgical microwave treatment designed for hyperhidrosis cure. Created in 2006, miraDry procedure has attracted numerous hyperhidrosis patients. It works by using a hand held device against your armpit which releases microwave energy to destroy sweat glands up to 5 millimetres beneath the skin. After a one day of temporary discomfort in the underarm area, this treatment starts showing its effects and stops hyperhidrosis within a week or so.

    Laser Sweat Ablation

If miraDry is new, Laser Sweat Ablation is even newer method of stopping underarm hyperhidrosis permanently. It came in 2008 and like its other counter parts it gained a fair reputation among its patients. The science behind LSA is to ablate eccrine sweat glands by making small incisions on the armpit skins followed by fat removal and exposing of infrared laser on the area where incisions were made. The dead tissues are taken out and the underarm skin is restored. It takes two hours to complete the procedure while the results begin to appear in 3 weeks.

    Botox Injections Treatment

Botox injections are a reliable and quite of an affordable treatment option for hyperhidrosis. Botulinum toxin type A is the main ingredient in those injections which are targeted at underarm skin area using fine needles and 100 units of Botox. A topical anaesthesia is applied to relieve possible discomfort from the injections. The process takes 20 minutes with almost zero downtime. Botox Cosmetic are a branded product injections which work by temporarily blocking chemical signals from the nerves to the underarm sweat glands. Along with hyperhidrosis, the chemical effects of Botox also cure release of body odour. The results should last for 6-12 months and can be repeated.

    Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS)

Surgical options for hyperhidrosis come as a last resort. A common surgical procedure called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) is used for this purpose. During treatment, the patient is made unconscious using general anaesthesia. The practitioner should be expert in the procedure as it requires surgical obstruction of transmission of nerve signals between spinal cord and sweat glands. ETS is also used for curing blushing, Raynaud's disease and reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
