ThinkUKnow is an Internet safety program delivering interactive training to parents, carers and teachers through primary and secondary schools across Australia using a network of accredited trainers. Created by the UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre, ThinkUKnow Australia has been developed by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Microsoft Australia.

Resources to help fight bullying

Schools First brings together students, teachers, parents and community members to help young people grow.  Could your school or cluster apply for some funding under this program? 

This report presents a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of programs designed to reduce school bullying perpetration and victimisation (i.e. being bullied). The authors indicate the pitfalls of previous reviews and explain in detail how the present systematic review and meta-analysis addresses the gaps in the existing literature on bullying prevention.

PROJECT ROCKIT is an interactive anti-bullying and youth leadership program that is run by young people for young people in both Primary and Secondary school settings. We are not a one-off entertainment act. We strive to achieve positive, lasting change by empowering young people to tackle the issues that are important to them. Looks interesting, in evaluation, 96% of students said they found PROJECT ROCKIT personally helpful.

The National Safe Schools Framework (NSSF) was endorsed by the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA) in July 2003. The Australian Government developed two supporting documents to assist with the implementation of the NSSF, the Resource Pack for jurisdictions; and the Implementation Manual for schools. This is currently being rewritten and will be available mid 2010

The Learning On Line website presents the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development's advice for schools on cybersafety and the responsible use of digital technologies.

Kids Helpline is Australia's only free, private and confidential, telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged between 5 and 25.

Digizen (UK) provides information about using social network sites and social media sites creatively and safely. It provides tips for evaluating online resources and examples of how to use them to support informal and formal learning. 

Photograph tackles the problem of 'sexting' or the creating, sharing and forwarding of sexually explicit images and text by teens. The 15 minute film (on DVD ROM) shows the repercussions when a 15 year old girl sends an inappropriate photograph of herself to her boyfriend. The story focuses on the emotional impact on the girl, her parents and her friends and the legal and emotional impact on the boy and his parents.  Cost: $60+GST for a whole school licence
