Tutkimuksen tietoaineistot : olennaisen käsikirja päättäjille (3/2010, CSC) - 1 views

  •
Data is not binary (Starks, 6/2010, O'Reilly Radar) - 0 views

"We believe it's much better to publish the following five components to provide transparent and auditable disclosure: 1. The raw data 2. The circumstances of its collection 3. The method and assumptions used to process the data (in words and equations) 4. The results of the processing 5. The known limitations on the method and significance of the assumptions"

Opening up research could boost UK economy (6/2010, JISC) - 0 views

  •
"Universities could be adding millions of pounds to the UK economy, according to findings announced this week by JISC at a Universities UK event. A recent JISC report, authored by Alma Swan (Modelling scholarly communication options: costs and benefits for universities) shows that a single large university could contribute around £3 million each year to the research community as a whole simply by sharing knowledge through a more open route."

Open Bibliography is Essential for modern scholarship (petermr, 10/2010) - 0 views

  •
"So the way forward is to embrace Open Bibliography (as itself, and also more widely as Open Scholarship). We believe that all primary publishers will actually see this as an important advance. After all if the bibliography is Open, then more people are likely to access the paper, journal, thesis, monograph, report, grey literature, etc."

How to publish raw clinical data: guidelines from Trials and the BMJ (1/2010, BioMed Ce... - 0 views

  •
"An increasing number of peer-reviewed journals and research funding agencies require authors to make available the raw, unprocessed data supporting the findings reported in their research articles --. -- But there is little practical guidance available on how data should be shared, particularly in clinical research where sharing information about individuals without their consent presents risks to privacy - both from a legal and ethical perspective."

Open Knowledge Foundation Blog » Blog Archive » Open Data in Archaeology - 0 views

  •
"Digital material can be easily reproduced at no cost. But this potential is often not realised, because the vast majority of archaeological information is not shared. Researchers and research groups usually restrict access to their data to a small group of people. In other words, data sharing is not so widespread among archaeologists as one might wish, and dissemination of research is still mostly based on traditional pre-digital means like journal articles, books and the like."

"The strategy seeks to emphasise activities designed to bring benefits to the education sector in the short-term, while at the same time maintaining investment in those projects with mid- and long-term benefits: in particular, programmes or services that help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of universities and colleges, to reduce costs in the short-term, and to enhance the competitiveness of education and research and the economy." Does marginal cost pricing of public sector information spur firm growth? (9/2011, ETLA) - 0 views
