Plymouth is famous as a port and the starting point for many historic voyages. The Pilgrim Fathers set out from Plymouth for America; Sir Francis Drake played his famous game of bowls on Plymouth before sailing out to defeat the Spanish Armada.

Plymouth Airport used to be a busy airport outside of plymouth. Plans to reopen the airport are being drawn up by some groups.
