This site contains outline of a lesson plan based on the Roman fort of Vindolanda just south of Hadrian's Wall. Outcome of their research is students writing a letter imagining they are a Roman soldier stationed on Hadrian's Wall.

Spartacus Educational is a UK based organisation providing free history encyclopedias. Entries usually include narrative, illustrations and primary sources. This Rome section is vast and a great place for students undertaking research. Seems to be a lot of writing.

This is a fantastic site presented by the British museum for students. It is very appropriate for year 7s. The site is broken into topics such as Mummification, Egyptian Life, Pyramids etc. Each topic has a home page, a story using primary sources, an explore page. and a challenge

This is a wonderful interactive timeline that uses maps to tell the story of world history. Great for overviews and placing depth studies in a global context
