The State Library's First Fleet Collection includes journals, letters, drawings, maps and charts created by those who actually travelled with the First Fleet. It is one of the Library's most significant and valuable collections.

Over 252 days, the First Fleet brought over 1500 men, women and children half way around the world from England to New South Wales.

"First Fleet Online consists of information about the convicts who were transported to Australia in 1787."

The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act received the royal assent on 9 July 1900 and it was proclaimed that, on the first day of the twentieth century, the six Australian colonies would be united as a federal commonwealth under the name of the Commonwealth of Australia.
