  • Federal Government to adequately define and criminalise torture across all levels of government as well as to continue discussions about adopting a Bill of Rights. Among its other concerns are the continuing policies on mandatory detention for illegal immigrants and increased powers given to the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).

    Well hopefully these kinds of reports will prompt the new Rudd Government into doing something about recognising torture and criminalizing it. To do otherwise would only illustrate the new government has no wish to respect Australians' human rights.
