  • Marianne Evers worked for three weeks at the centre. Around the time she resigned, she says two mental health workers also quit. The veteran nurse has also worked at the Curtin, Yongah Hill and Darwin detention centres. She says all are not easy places, but Nauru is by far the worst.

  • Insiders from the Federal Police and the immigration department say that authorities failed to act, and documents obtained by 7.30 back up their claims.
  • Everything from huge levels of depression and self harm even through to voluntary starvation, demonstrations and protest action. Occasionally that would break out in physical expressions of frustration in violence and things like that. Even down to lip sewing and all sorts of just horrific behaviours which is sourced from a place of vulnerability and just immense frustration.
