Confusing interface, very cluttered. Art Snacks site might be useful but you have to join and give specific information before looking at the site to decide whether it would be beneficial - needs a preview. So, not a chance! You'll need to spend quite a bit of time and energy digging through the site. Parts are definitely valuable.

TeachPaperless: IEP Recommendation: Mobile Access - 1 views

  • mobile tech is the single best vehicle for addressing the confidence and practical needs of many of our kids with learning differences
  • I don't mean to say that the tech itself is the 'difference', what I am trying to say is that the tech -- and especially the personalized and always-on facet of mobile tech -- will provide the connection to the tools, the teachers, and the interventions that will make the difference in a way both unique and also requiring a re-thinking in terms of how we offer relevant services to students with learning differences.
  • we need to explain to developers what we and our students need from them
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Even better, we should be calling for Ed Schools to provide instruction in app making and digital design so that we -- the teachers -- have the capacity to program our own teaching.
  • we need to push now for an end to the access issues facing all of our schools
  • Let's make districts come to the realization that mobile devices and mobile access are the point-of-entry for learning right now. Let's put state funded devices in the hands of kids who need them and let all kids bring their own INTELLECTUAL EMPOWERMENT DEVICES to class.

Paper computer shows flexible future for smartphones and tablets - 1 views

shared by J B on 15 May 11 - No Cached
  • PaperPhone is the world's first nextgen, thin film smartphone and interactive paper computer.
  • Thinfilm sensors allow the phone to respond to bending of the screen to navigate pages in ebooks, play or pause mp3s, make phone calls, or navigate apps. A flexible wacom tablet allows users to draw on the screen with a pen as if it were a sheet of paper.

This looks like an interesting way to store and share information. I can see it being used by a teacher to share specific info to a class without needing to just share links. More useable format.

iPads, iPods aid communication in Elgin special-needs classes | The Marion Star | mario... - 2 views

An Ohio school is using iPods and iPads with its students who have multiple disabilities for reading and to improve students' communication, which can help to reduce their frustration levels. Educators say the devices cost less than traditional assistive technology and appear more mainstream, which may concern students in middle or high school.
