Instrumental fish is a fun, handmade game! This idea came to me from an awesome music teacher in a neighboring district. The materials needed are: a poster board pond, laminated fish with instruments on one side and a magnet on the other, and fishing poles with magnets attached to the line.

A couple years ago my high school students actually transcribed/arranged this for percussion ensemble and taught themselves how to play it. The first time I heard them play it was at our final concert in May.

Steve Weiss Music has a large array of percussion instruments, drums, drum set equipment, sticks/mallets, and sheet music, among other things. It is a great place to buy mallets, sticks, and accessory percussion for any kind of music program that you could possibly be running. They have great deals quite frequently, as well.

Students Must Learn to Listen - 0 views

Monday, 25 August 2014 Learning to play an instrument is learning to practise. And learning to practise is learning to listen. My nine-year-old son has just passed his ABRSM Grade 1 cello exam. He has an excellent teacher at a state-funded London school, and he has the advantage (even if sometimes he doesn't see it that way) of also learning how to sing and play the piano.
