Human settlement of Mars in 2023 Mars One will establish the first human settlement on Mars in 2023. A habitable settlement will be waiting for the settlers when they land. The settlement will support them while they live and work on Mars the rest of their lives. Every two years after 2023 an additional crew will arrive, such that there is a real living, growing community on Mars. Mars One has created a technical plan for this mission that is as simple as possible. For every component of the mission we have identified at least one potential supplier. Mars One invites you to join us in this next giant leap for mankind!

NASA's SDO Sees Sun Emit Mid-Level Flare Oct. 1 - 0 views

  •
The sun emitted a mid-level solar flare, peaking at 8:13 p.m. EDT on Oct. 1, 2015. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which watches the sun constantly, captured an image of the event. Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation. Harmful radiation from a flare cannot pass through Earth's atmosphere to physically affect humans on the ground, however -- when intense enough -- they can disturb the atmosphere in the layer where GPS and communications signals travel.

Sloan Digital Sky Survey - 0 views

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is one of the most ambitious and influential surveys in the history of astronomy. Over eight years of operations (SDSS-I, 2000-2005; SDSS-II, 2005-2008), it obtained deep, multi-color images covering more than a quarter of the sky and created 3-dimensional maps containing more than 930,000 galaxies and more than 120,000 quasars. SDSS data have been released to the scientific community and the general public in annual increments, with the final public data release from SDSS-II scheduled for October 31, 2008. SDSS-III, a program of four new surveys using SDSS facilities, began observations in July 2008, and will continue through 2014.

Welcome to the LISC web portal - LISC - LISA International Science Community - 0 views

  •
website features news, resources, and discussion boards about LISA (the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna), a space-based gravitational-wave observatory that will allow us to detect gravitational waves from massive black-hole mergers in the centers of galaxies, from the ultra-compact binary systems in our own Galaxy, and from many other sources. A joint ESA and NASA mission, LISA will create revolutionary research opportunities in astrophysics and fundamental physics.
