Researchers have created a new keyboard layout which they claim makes "thumb-typing" faster on touchscreen devices such as tablets and large smartphones. Dr Per Ola Kristensson, from St Andrews University, said traditional Qwerty keyboards had trapped users in "suboptimal text entry interfaces". The new design has been dubbed KALQ, after the order of keys on one line.
Russian computer programmers have created an industry supplying criminals with easy-to-use automated hacking software which can take control of a home PC in seconds. This type of software, called an exploit pack, takes advantage of known flaws in commonly used programs, such as Adobe Reader and Internet Explorer, to hack computers without the need for human intervention.
Trust in information on the web is being damaged by the huge numbers of people paid by companies to post comments online, say researchers. Fake posters can "poison" debate and make people unsure about who they can trust, the study suggests. Some firms have created tens of thousands of fake accounts to flood chat forums and skew debate.
It amazes that 5% of users create 75% of the drivel that is on the site, I can't help but feel that the world would be a much better place without them.
My problem with twitter and all other forms of social networking, but mostly twitter, is the amount of rubbish posted on it. People become obsessed with posting all they are doing. It leads people to online stalking. I would love to shut twitter down, just for a week to make people realize that they don't need to know what people are doing at all times of the day, if it is that important it will be on the news.
