Quid is from the Latin quid, what. In current English use quid is best known from the phrase quid pro quo, which literally means "what for what." More commonly, quid pro quo is used to suggest one thing in place for another; a fair exchange. The less well known Latin phrase quid nunc? means "What next?" and is used to refer to an inquisitive person, one who is constantly asking, "What's the news?"
