Depending on the Tycoon game it can be very educational. If you remember the old lemonade stand, that could be thought of as a tycoon game.

Let's use the power of Microsoft and create things from the 20th century schoolhouse. One person on a blog said it best that this looks like it as been lost for 10 years and recently uncovered.

The tool supports everything from basic arithmetic through algebra. Historical note - when the first Access to Network Resources came out in Arlington we were tasked with coming up with a list of DOs to put on a poster. You may have an old one hanging up somewhere. The Students Will... the only one we couldn't wordsmith was not operate a business. The others were put into the form of what we expected to the students to do.

I would argue that in some districts there are other forces resisting change for the same reason of self preservation.
