Jon Krakauer is a "best-selling journalist and author of Into the Wild, Eiger Dreams and Into Thin Air. Many of Krakauer's books originally start out as stories for the popular outdoors magazine", this just displays why his books are created with a journalistic style of writing.

"Though historians say that Joseph Smith had numerous wives, and some estimates exceed 30, he didn't admit it. His first wife (and only legal one) denied it, too. Brigham Young, who succeeded Smith and in 1847 led Mormon pioneers west to what became Utah, reportedly married 56 women" (Ravitz, CNN)

Jon Krakauer speaks of FLDS leaders within his novel, this research source is to reaffirm some of the statements made within his novel. Krakauer does a fantastic job at making all of his text at being subjective but cleverly makes a clear, negative understanding of the FDLS church.

In the novel "Under the Banner of Heaven", John Krakauer wrote about two brothers, the Lafferty boys, that are indoctrinated into the Mormon faith. On July 24, 1984 these brothers killed a woman and her infant daughter. The brothers believe that they were ordered to kill by God. Yet the bible, which religious people claim that the bible is the word of god, says "You shall not murder". Either this divine creature is fickle minded or the "roots of their crime lie deep in the history of an American religion practiced by millions…" (Krakauer)
