In this site you can search dietary supplements in the CARDS system. It provides research information on dietary supplements & applicable disease states.
  •
Very informative website. I like the section for informed decision making and I also like the research section. It lists institutes involved in botanical research and current research topics being explored.
  •
This is a multi-faceted site, with many kinds of information in many forms. I especially like the fact sheets which cover some common and less common subjects. These are well written and usefull for the busy healthcare professional as well as savy consumers.

Preventive Medicine Research Institute - 0 views

I found this site when I read an article in US News & World Report about healthy aging. The president of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute, Dean Ornish MD, states how powerfully our choices in diet & lifestyle affect us. The article also talked about epigenetics which studies the ways chemical changes can alter gene expression.

I liked the section on consumer trends - such as omega 3, pomegranate, yogurt, etc.
  •
It was interesting to note the different focus in the US version vs. the European version.

The World's Healthiest Foods - 4 views

This site explains how you can eat and cook healthy, and healing with foods. You can look up (by nutrient name) the essential nutrients in the healthiest foods, get a description of the nutrient, how it helps you, and what problems a deficiency might cause; also how foods relate to your health condition.
  •
What an excellent website. Its mission is to provide us with the latest scientific research about the benefits of the world's healthiest foods. Every week there's a video on how to prepare the food of the week. There's a focus on how to cook these foods to maintain the highest amount of nutrients.

The meal plans and easy healthy recipes are great. Also a lot of great information under the "hot topics" section.

ConsumerLab.com - independent tests of herbal, vitamin, and mineral supplements - 7 views

I found so much useful information on this site I almost forgot to go home. Mostly product testing, but there are also sections such as the encyclopedia, and current government warnings (not just US). The product testing sections list not only the products that passed CL tests, but also those that did not, and why. There are explanations of how the tests were done. The text also discussses current research with references. The biggest problem is that not all products can be tested. But I did find some information about a supplement I'm taking that helped to explain the label information on the bottle.

This website is excellent. Even without a subscription you can get a lot of information but prices for it aren't bad. Lots of recall and warning information.
  •
Very interesting site. I was interested in the product testing, reviews and warnings. A lot of great information on one website.

I learned a lot about the issue of pure encapsulation, using no excipients in the formulas. I had never really thought much about it before, but it's important when trying to eliminate certain things from the diet.
