Hinata decides to come to Naruto's aid as he is incapacitated by Pain. Despite knowing her overwhelming disadvantage, Hinata confronts Pain in battle. Subsequently, she confesses her love for Naruto. She is ultimately defeated and (apparently) fatally stabbed by Pain, causing Naruto to transform in his Nine Tailed Fox form out of anger. Meanwhile, Konoha ninja start the search for Pain's controlling body, Nagato.

While Inoichi and the others find out the location of the original Pain, Naruto attempts to fight back the remaining paths with Sage Mode but Tendo pulls him in to Preta Path, having his sage chakra absorbed, just to be later petrified due to the huge amount of Sage Chakra sucked in. Tendo kills Fukasaku before he can perform a genjutsu along with Shima, and takes the advantage of the fight with Naruto lying on the ground with his hands pierced by Tendo's rods. Hinata worries about Naruto, looking closely the battle with her Byakugan
