» Ed Batista: Social Network Tools From AlertThingy to Zemanta - 0 views

  • I found this article published in  March excellent relative content-No Gotchas's Ed Batista: Social Network Tools From AlertThingy to Zemanta. "One year after my last review of some social media tools and networks, here's the 2009 version.  Included are: - UPDATES on the services I reviewed last year and how I've integrated them into my work (or not) as an executive coach and consultant: Tumblr, Twitter, Utterli and (on the lighter side) Don't Break the Chain.  (In this section I also reference a number of Twitter clients, but I don't discuss them in depth–more on that front later.)!"  Ed Batista Related articles by Zemanta

Search Engines Evaluating Snippets in SERPS - 0 views

  • Search Engines Evaluating Snippets in SERPS By Bill Slawski, on July 24th, 2009 Meta descriptions for web pages likely don’t influence the rankings of your web pages in search results. But if your meta descriptions include keywords that your pages might be found for, they may be displayed in search results with links to those pages. If those meta descriptions are interesting and engaging, and provide the right information, they may influence people who view them and are interested in what you offer to visit your pages. When someone searches at a search engine, they are usually presented with a list of search results, often referred to as SERPS - search engine result pages, that can include page titles, abstracts or snippets from those pages, and URLs from the pages. The abstracts or snippets may sometimes be part or all of the meta descriptions for the pages, if the meta descriptions contain the keyword or keywords used by searchers in their queries. But, a seach engine might just as easily take that snippet from somewhere else on the page returned in search results. If you spend a fair amount of time trying to find the right words to use in those meta descriptions, you may want to think about what might snippets appear when your pages show up in search results and the search engines don’t use those painfully and carefully crafted meta descriptions.

Zemanta !Back in February 2008 Business Week had a story by Jeff Jarvis called "Love the Customers Who Hate You." I loved the overall theme of the article. At the time I just started in my position as the manager of digital care. I saw the great potential to turn detractors into evangelist, but more importantly I recognized that we can learn a lot from these Customers and make the feedback actionable. This article was the first to enlighten me that my new role was truly the convergence of PR, marketing and Customer Service.

Die? Thrive? Are You Conflicted On What You Want from Old Media? - louisgray.com - 0 views

Die? Thrive? Are You Conflicted On What You Want from Old Media? If you're one of the millions who saw the Daily Show last week, you probably saw a clip where Jason Jones took apart the New York Times, asking a staffer to find any news that happened "today". The paper, exemplifying the "yesterday's news" mentality that has a rapidly-increasing chasm between it and today's real-time world, is bleeding red ink as news consumers turn elsewhere for their updates - including many of us to the Web and to blogs. But over the weekend, as the situation in Iran unfolded, and old media, including CNN, was famously slow to respond, there were practically digital pitchforks out - highlighting what was characterized as a massive failure, compared to the personal 1-1 immediate reports we got from Twitter and elsewhere.

Out of bounds Sometimes people push back on posts of mine they don't like by telling me I'm out of bounds. Somehow, they say, I've crossed the boundary of what I'm allowed to write about. They are angry that I'm now writing about something outside my defined area. I'm usually taken aback by this, because I didn't realize I'd actually agreed to any boundaries.

Richard Edelman - 6 A.M.: The Graduates - 0 views

  •
May 29, 2009 The Graduates I am in the midst of graduation sensation, with my eldest to receive her college diploma next Thursday and my middle child having earned her high school diploma just a week ago. We entertained thirteen college students at our home last weekend; I could now write a new script for "Survivor; The Parents" based on that experience. I am very pleased that my college graduate will begin her career at Edelman Chicago in the fall; Generation Three begins! Given the terrible job market for college and professional school graduates, I thought it appropriate to offer some advice on how to approach the employment search in PR. First, consider working initially as an intern. Most of our offices are utilizing summer interns. Some of these jobs will become full time in the fall, given normal employee turnover. We have the interns do real work, from preparing press lists to writing press materials. Second, digital is your fastest way in the door and to the top. All PR firms are rapidly adapting their core offerings, as the game shifts away from sole reliance on media relations. Show us how you're blogging, tweeting, utilizing video, participating with communities, advancing issues. If you can demonstrate how you can advise on social media, then you have immediate value. We operate a facebook site solely for potential interns, and a twitter, facebook, widget and a LinkedIn site for all pros so they can participate with the Edelman community.

The Culture of the Internet - Pogue's Posts Blog - NYTimes.com - 0 views

The Culture of the Internet I've been thinking a lot about Internet culture lately. Or, rather, the culture *of* the Internet. A peculiar chain of events unfolded on Twitter a couple nights ago. I sent my followers a link to a hilarious sendup of Internet comment culture, a music video spoof called "We Didn't Start the Flamewar." (It's at http://bit.ly/16NZLH, and it contains a ton of bad language, plus parodies of offensive, juvenile comments). Then I made the tragic mistake of mentioning, in a subsequent tweet, that that song's lyrics mentioned something I hadn't heard of: Rickrolling. DOH!
