Texas House Bill Proposes Dropping Algebra II From Diploma Standards - 0 views

    I'm going to Texas!!

That is just dumb. It is giving kids a reason to do less in school than they already do. Retaking tests as many times as you want, Skipping weeks of school but still passing by taking and passing performances.. I mean come on, how much easier can it get. College is going to be a slap in the face when kids aren't handed everything. Good Luck.
  •
    I completely agree with Madison.
  •
Actually this doesn't sound bad, because colleges will still require it, and Texas schools don't necessarily have the same grading system as us.

The impact of $9 minimum wage, Is it Good or Bad? - 2 views

  •
good because some people dont get payed enough for how hard they work which is not always fair and right
  • ...4 more comments...
  •
I think it is good because there are places that people get paid $7 something which is less then $9.
  •
Increasing the minimum wage would just make companies fire people because they'd feel some workers aren't worth paying a few extra dollars. I'd love to be paid 9 dollars, but this is told to help reduce poverty, I think it'll just increase unemployment.
  •
sounds good to me becuase i feel like im getting screwed with the minimum wage... i know they have the money to do that but that could lead to be less jobs becuse they dont want to spend more money.
  •
I don't think your decision on this matter should be whether you want more money or not. Of course everyone would like to get paid more; you have to look on the effects it would create. If raising the amount should happen, I think it should be raised more gradually- not just jumping to $9 automatically.
  •
Minimum wage is based on cost of living. No one can virtually live off of minimum wage. I know of several people who have two minimum wage jobs and work all the time but still are barely getting by. I understand this is what welfare is for but I also believe that if we raised the min wage to $9 more people would be off welfare and this would be an economy booster. Also the Minimum wage should be adjusted due to the fact that it hasn't been changed for a while.
  •
i think it is a good thing to bump it up to 9 because there is no way you can live off of minimum wage i mean think what if you go to the hospital no way you can pay the bills for that and suppply food for your house no way to live

Edith Windsor: Case against Defense of Marriage Act 'went beautifully' | The Raw Story - 0 views

  •
i think that you should be able to get married no matter if your gay or not its not their life so why are they so against gay marriage
  •
in my opinion I think that you should have the right to be married no matter if your gay or not. Its not their life its yours i just dont understand why they are so against gay marriage. It's not like its hurting us.
  •
I'm glad that she won this case, because the law states that if your husband or wife were to die, you get the things they leave behind. I don't see why it would be different if you are gay. It just makes no sense. I don't understand why this law was passed in the first place.

U.S. military training for potential zombie apocalypse...uh, what? - 4 views

  •
"Is there something I should know about? Why is the U.S. military preparing for a zombie apocalypse?"
  • ...5 more comments...
  •
I heard something about this actually. The executive branch went to Hollywood, and asked them to come up with 50 impossible worst case scenarios. They are going to prepare for the top 10 or something. This is due to 9/11, nobody ever thought someone would be stupid enough to (and smart enough to pull it off) crash planes into 2 towers, and the pentagon. They thought it be impossible, so now the government is going to prepare for the impossible.
  •
If you read the reasons for doing this, it actually makes sense. Although they might be preparing for "zombies," the training is really giving them experience that would let them handle terrorist attacks, mobs, etc. A doctor from the CDC said this: "If you are generally well equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse you will be prepared for a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake, or terrorist attack." So while training our military for a zombie apocalypse might seem eccentric it really isn't. Besides, there are actually a number of theories on how humans could become zombie-like, and some of them are even backed up by science. The CDC also has a blog on how to prepare yourself for a zombie apocalypse. http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2011/05/preparedness-101-zombie-apocalypse/
  •
    we are screwed...
  •
This is ridiculous! Pigs will fly the day of an apocalypse!
  •
This doesn't actually mean there is going to be a zombie apocalypse. People will believe anything the media puts out there. I agree with Mallory, if they are prepared for a science fiction "zombie attack" then they are prepared for almost any natural disaster or terrorist attack.
  •
@ Harvey - I am not going to build a flying craft to lift a pig to float out your window, and you will see a flying pig. Enjoy the apocalypse. Mallory, you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
  •
This most likely will never happen. It seems illogical to me. But since they are preparing for a scientific "zombie apocalypse" then we should be prepared for almost any other natural disaster.

Man sues Georgia for blocking "GAYGUY" vanity license plate - 1 views

  •
ATLANTA (Reuters) - An Atlanta man is suing the state of Georgia after his application for a vanity license plate that he said described his sexual orientation was denied.
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
its a first ammendment right to have free speech but if its obscene then for public deciency something can be taken down or changed but in this case its jjust a license plate so its that important
  •
What if he was just trying to let everyone know that he's a really cheerful guy? The word 'gay' is not an obscenity, and it has more than one meaning. Also, come on Georgia. At try to look like you aren't oppressing people.
  •
Georgia (or some of the people of Georgia), upset me more and more as I read stories like this. There is nothing offensive about using the word "Gay" in the ways that man tried to. He didn't do anything wrong. And, like Mallory said, the word doesn't even have to have the implied meaning everyone instantly assumes. Georgia? Tisk Tisk.

I believe that his punishment fits what he did.
  •
His punishment was too extreme. I understand he probably shouldn't have put it on twitter, but still, getting suspended for 4 days was a little much.
  •
He didn't do anything really wrong. Maybe he shouldn't have put it on Twitter, but still, it wasn't that big of a deal.
  •
That one little picture went a litter too far. His mom had a point, no answers or questions were shown in the picture, just the boys belief.
  •
It's a picture...saying yolo...on twitter. Yes, it's on a test, but I'd rather it be on a test (showing no answers so it's really not something to get this hyped up about) than carved into the side of my car.

i think that they should make the gun law more strict because now a days it is easy for anyone to get a gun and should make it harder for someone to get into a school that is not supposed to be there

Georgia high school to host first integrated prom - 4 views

  •
"Students at one south Georgia high school share classrooms and sports fields; but, they don't share the same prom." Welcome to 2013. How far have we come in fighting segregation... not far enough.
  • ...12 more comments...
  •
This is just wrong. The students are being segregated because of their race and color. Shouldn't racism be illegal? especially in schools!
  •
I think having separate dances based on color is just wrong. If they can attend the same school, games and classes, then they should also be allowed to attend the dances with their friends, no matter their color.
  •
I can't believe to this day that there are people separating blacks from whites in some kind of activity. They share the same class rooms and everything else. Why can't they attend the same prom together? It amazes me how people think that they need to separate prom by the color of their skin.
  •
I can't believe there is a school that integrated but yet they separate dances for the students? I think what the girls are trying to do is a good idea cause there isn't a good enough reason for the school to have separate dances.
  •
I didn´t know segregation still was a problem.. This is annoying they have seperate proms for the races. It blows my mind how one can dislike and discourage people of a different color and race. We are all human beings.
  •
I think the fact that there is still segregation at all means the government isn't doing its job. They need to crack down on stuff like this.
  •
Even now there's still a problem segregation. Having two different proms for whites and colored kids is crazy.
  •
I didn't know schools were still allowed to do this. I don't understand why they can play sports together but not go to dances together.
  •
I thought segregation was no more but guess I was wrong. It doesn't make sense that they can play sports and attend other activities but they cant attend prom together. This isn't right!
  •
They shouldn't be able to do that. Th government ordered desegregation for schools in the 50's with the rights movement.
  •
Oh gosh, I'm pretty sure it feels like a slap in the face to the people who can't go to the "white" prom because they are black. I didn't even know they still did that. Or the fact that they were allowed too. It doesn't make any sense to me that they can have sports together but not dances?! Boggles my mind.
  •
Its sad how their are still people out their that believe this is the right thing to do. I mean come on its a school dance they have these students do everything else together whats the point in separating them for a dance.
  •
I can't believe this stuff still exist. The football team is segregated but the prom isn't? What took so long?
  •
    Is this even legal?

Krokodil: The Drug That Eats Junkies From the Inside Out - 2 views

  •
Ew! Crazy drug that is being used hardcore in Russia that basically rots your body inside out. They use it because it is cheaper than heroin but has a similar high.
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
That's crazy! How do people even come up what to put in drugs like this?
  •
They know that the drug itself is literally eating away their body from the inside. Yet the addiction is so powerful that they'd rather keep injecting them self with it. It's much more addicting and powerful than heroine. Even though it's cheaper to make the affects are much worse.
  •
I feel like this was like a mistake drug. They just threw bunch of bad stuff together and called it a drug because they got high.....It's crazy what people will do to feel that way!
  •
Craziest drug I've heard of. Count me out on getting that "high." People are nuts!!!
  •
That is disgusting thinking about what it does to the body. It literally makes the skin peel away from the bones.
  •
It is crazy what people will do to satisfy themselves.. Unbelievable
  •
if a drug there is a drug that can eat you inside out they should make it to where you cant get it because a lot of bad things can happen
  •
Maybe if all the people who do drugs take this drug, it will get rid of druggies altogether. Maybe it's not such a bad thing. Joking. But seriously, why do people do these things if they know it's bad for them?
  •
Honestly, how do people come up with such drugs? Are they that desperate!?
  •
This drug is disgusting. Why would people do this if they know what it is going to do to them? They are pretty much choosing to slowly kill themselves. They know people that have been on it longer and have seen the effects of it, but still choose to use the drug. I understand it is cheaper than heroin, which most of them were addicted to before this drug, but it is so much worse than heroin. Once they start the drug it takes over there lives, between cooking it and putting it in them. They don't get much sleep, if any at all because of it. I think of it as a form of suicide, pretty much.
