Conspiracy Theorists Are Harassing A Man Who Sheltered Students After Newtown Shooting - 1 views

  •
I can agree with being suspicious of believing everything we are spoon fed by the media, but these people who claim Sandy Hook shooting was a pure hoax are insulting the families of victims. Here is another story about the Florida professor who is "not convinced" the shooting happened. http://foxnewsinsider.com/2013/01/14/fl-professor-james-tracy-suggests-sandy-hook-shooting-was-a-hoax-could-he-be-fired/
  •
I heard about this right after hearing about two more school shootings happening yesterday. I am starting to get my own conspiracy theory. Although i agree that this was not the way to raise the question on what is really causing all these large scale shooting.
  •
even though there is a chance there was more then one shooter they do not need to harass people who either lost familly from the shooting or helped protect the children like the person who helped them at the end of his driveway

Monsanto Protection Act Proves Corporations More Powerful Than US Govt - 0 views

We've seen similar scenarios in the past, events in which the massive financial power of multi-national corporations is able to buy out legislators who were elected to 'represent' voters. But now, Monsanto has set the bar even higher.

North Korea says 'prepare for war' - 1 views

I'm hoping that all this is just a bunch of saber rattling as they say, and not the start of WWIII.
  •
Koreans success with nuclear missiles is really scary fir the United Nations, China needs to go against them and help the rest of the United Nations cut off their resources.
  •
I think that North Korea is bluffing because they dont have enough resources to fight a war. It would be suicide for them to attempt to attack the U.S or other countries in the United Nations.
  •
I hope North Korea is bluffing, With their success in Nuclear Weaponry, you can only take them seriously because we're scared of WWIII or any other type of Nuclear Holocaust. They have the upper hand.

I think it's okay to cheer for your country when you're trying to support them, but if you're doing it to offend other races, then that's different.
  •
Some people take their patriotism too far. But then again, other races look for reasons to call Americans racist.
  •
Patriotism is huge to Americans. Chanting USA at USA games shows that they are patriotic but when you chant it towards other races because you believe they are not true Americans is a different story. Those people who offended others by chanting that should be punished.
  •
I think representing your country is not offensive. Other people have the option to do the same things in representing what they stand for.
  •
This happened at one of the basketball games I was at this year and I thought it was very disrespectful but nothing was said or done to the student section that said it.
  •
Those people were just stupid, they took the chant to a whole different level how it wasn't meant to be.

Congress Is Quietly Abandoning the 5th Amendment - Conor Friedersdorf - The Atlantic - 2 views

  •
a specific law that has passed both the Senate and the House, and is presently in a conference committee, where lawmakers reconcile the two versions. Observers once worried that the law would permit the indefinite detention of American citizens, or at least force them to rely on uncertain court challenges if unjustly imprisoned.
  •
Personally I believe that the NDAA for 2012 should never have been signed. I also think that it is a little late to try and fix this because people in Congress have already agreed that they want to permanently detain American citizens without trial and now are just trying to save face by "opposing" it. After all the author of that amendment, Senator Feinstein, voted for the NDAA for 2012. What really confuses, and kind of angers me, is that Obama said when he signed the NDAA for 2012 he didn't want that part in the law but he was signing it anyway (I don't have a quote but I'll find one). Now he is trying to defend indefinite detention of citizens in court after a federal judge found it unconstitutional. Another interesting article about this is this one. It shows that even people who generally would work together disagree about this bill: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/18/ndaa-indefinite-detention_n_2326225.html

Westboro Baptist Church Says It Will Picket Vigil For Connecticut School Shooting Victims - 1 views

  •
The Westboro Baptist Church, the controversial group known for protesting outside funerals of slain U.S. service members, announced that it will picket a vigil for the victims of Friday's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the second-deadliest school shooting in American history.

KC news is reporting on petitions to have the Westboro Church classified as a hate group and remove their tax exempt status as a "church" http://fox4kc.com/2012/12/17/westboro-meets-its-match-thousands-sign-retaliatory-petitions/
  •
I don't condone the activities of this group but they have freedom of speech and the right to do whatever they want with it no matter how hateful it is and people could have private funerals
  •
They should leave people be, to bad they most likely never will, Because the parents can't even stop them without likely being sued by Westboro.
  •
I do not agree with their way of think about homosexuals. I think that the church should mind their own business in their own sate. The parents and everyone should just ignore the Westboro Church.
  •
i think we should ignore the group otherwise we are giving them the attention they want.
  •
It is sad that this church will stoop this low to get their (totally invalid) point across. They are a bunch of idiots if you ask me.
  •
I think that they have the right to be there, but they should understand that this is not a good time to do this. They should understand how hard it must be for their parents, and would feel the same way if one of their children died. I also do not agree with the fact they blame homosexuality for all the problems and say God hates America. In reality God does not hate anyone because we are all his children.
  •
I can truly see the side of the Westboro Baptist Church but it does not mean that I agree with it. I find that America itself has quite a few strange beliefs itself defended by these rights. I don't have any means to go against these rights.
  •
I think that they have the ability to not allow the Church to protest.
  •
I'm all for free speech. But I think there should definitely be a line drawn as where freedom of speech ends.
  •
I hope they lose their tax-exempt status. Here's an article with more information on their 501(c)3 status and how they could lose it. http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/westboro_baptist_churchs_tax-exempt_status_challenged_20121218/ Personally, I think their protests are clearly staged with the intent to influence politics. (They want gay marriage outlawed)
  •
well if the parents know they are gonna protest have the funeral be private so they can't protest

Congressional ethics investigators could soon be silenced - 0 views

Washington (CNN) -- Inside an ordinary office building six blocks from the Capitol, investigators sift through evidence of possible violations against ethics and laws committed by the nation's elected representatives. This is the Office of Congressional Ethics, also known as the OCE. It is one of the most important watchdogs in Washington.

if the people who are being investigated are trying to stop the investigators then their is most likely some corruption happening in congress

2-STATE CHILD CUSTODY BATTLE REACHES SUPREME COURT - 0 views

  •
Interesting issue. Biological father suing for visitation rights for baby he relinquished custody over when he and girlfriend put the infant up for adoption. I am curious to know what you think should happen.
  • ...2 more comments...
  •
I think that the adoptive parents should be able to keep the child because I agree with the adoptive father they should not be able to use the tribe law when the child was given up for adoption even after the child was born so she was never taken away from the tribe.
  •
I think that her Biological father should actually get a chance to raise his daughter but It's interesting since in today's day and age there are some parents that give away there babies but then they realize they shouldn't have since they would have been able to take care of themselves and the baby, In some cases when the children are returned to there biological parents instead of there adopted parents it can actually be healthier and better for them.
  •
I feel bad for both sides of this issue and most of all the child in which it involves. Although I believe that the child should be in custody of their biological father.
  •
These situations are always sad in my opinion. I really feel bad for the biological father but I don't think he should get custody of his daughter. He signed away his custodial rights for whatever reason and he shouldn't, in my opinion, be able to back track on that after his daughter was adopted by another couple. The adoptive couple raised her for two years and they formed a bond and loving relationship which would be unfair to both the couple and the little girl to take away because the father decided to "take back" his custodial rights after giving them up.

Closer to 30 killed in school shooting - 1 views

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. We are talking about the preamble in government and what our nation should do to form a more perfect union, but yet some stranger for no parent reason goes and shoots little kids at a ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. What a perfect union we have.

People are disgusting. The United States leads the world in number of school shootings, ( http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html ). I think we need to focus on mental health more, starting when children are in school. People don't become murderers overnight, or even in a few days.
  •
From what I have heard it is possible that the shooter has suffered from mental illness though out his life. I think what we need to focus on is how these people are getting their hands on guns if they have mental illness or are criminals. In the last four years we have had 20 of the 26 mass shootings. Something has to change. It's not just being able to get guns though. It also has to do with how we as a country view guns. How many of the new movies this year have had some kind of gun violence? How many times in movies are we shown people solving problems by using guns?
  •
There will be a lot to talk about with this tragedy. Here is a link to a page with all the CNN school shooting links in one spot: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/us/connecticut-school-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_inthenews
  •
I think this was a horrible thing cuz its almost christmas and those kids that saw this and are still alive are going to remember this the rest of there lives.
  •
This is very tragic to hear and many people are dealing with the losses of the children or relatives. Sometimes it make me wonder why we have an amendment the right to bear arms if things like this are happening. These were innocent kids with a bright future ahead. It was very devastating for everyone around the U.S to know things like this are happening in our society.
  •
This is an article that I found that talks more about how to prepare for future shooting while also talking about this shooting. http://news.msn.com/us/analysis-how-prepared-can-we-be-for-possible-future-shootings

Drunk-drive blood tests divide Supreme Court - 0 views

  •
Washington (CNN) -- Alcohol-related car crashes kill about 10,000 people each year in the United States and law enforcement wants more flexibility to determine whether a suspected drunk driver is, indeed, over the limit. But the Supreme Court was clearly divided in oral arguments on Wednesday about whether police can obtain a blood test without a warrant to determine intoxication levels.

I thought that if the field sobriety test was failed or alcohol was on the breath they were instantly subject to breath test or blood test.
  •
I know that in Iowa, if you do not consent to a test(s), it is as if you fail all 3. In our state, it does not take much to arrest someone for drunk driving. If you fail one of the 3, you have to consent to one of the others, or once again, you are arrested for drunk driving. In all honesty, I would be pretty angry if someone wanted to draw my blood. I am first of all, scared of needles, and I am pretty sure I am also Hemophobic. I want to see what the courts rule on this.
  •
if you refuse to take the test its the same as failing the test
