I think that this school isn't doing anything wrong and they have the right to ask people to leave the district who refuse to comply with their rules and regulations.

i think that they should make the gun law more strict because now a days it is easy for anyone to get a gun and should make it harder for someone to get into a school that is not supposed to be there

Sandy Hook task force recommends demolition and rebuilding - 1 views

  •
To erase some of the emotional scars left behind from the December shooting massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, an advisory board wants the building torn down and replaced.
  •
i think its a good thing that they tear down sandy hook school and rebuild a new one because nobody is going to be able to go into the school without being completely terrified and all they will remember is what happened.

That is just dumb. It is giving kids a reason to do less in school than they already do. Retaking tests as many times as you want, Skipping weeks of school but still passing by taking and passing performances.. I mean come on, how much easier can it get. College is going to be a slap in the face when kids aren't handed everything. Good Luck.
  •
    I completely agree with Madison.
  •
Actually this doesn't sound bad, because colleges will still require it, and Texas schools don't necessarily have the same grading system as us.

Suit: L.A. schools 'incompetent' in settling $30 million abuse case - CNN.com - 0 views

  •
"A former Los Angeles public schools official is suing the system over settlements with dozens of students who were awarded $470,000 each, alleging that a teacher sentenced to prison on charges of lewd behavior never came into abusive contact with those children."
  •
Its hard to say with cases that involve teachers vs. students. While the teachers tend to be more credible, people accept students to be young and innocent and not able to lie under pressure. Who knows what really happened.

  •
Dash cams have done a lot of good in keeping track of students and work better than relying on eye witnesses.

Slap To The Face Gets Student Expelled - 11 views

  •
This case is NOT about the S.L.A.P.S test to decide if something is obscene (Serious Literary, Artistic, Political, Scientific value). So anyway, different sort of slap... Do you think the school reacted with an appropriate punishment?
  • ...4 more comments...
  •
No I don't believe that the school should have expelled him. Students get into fist fights, but sometimes only get suspended. He should be punished, but I think they went a little too far.
  •
I feel the school went a little overboard on the punishment, but then again it shows other teens that slapping someone in the face is not okay, and is not a joking matter.
  •
Seems to me that this punishment was cruel and a little excessive. I do agree that he needs some sort of punishment to learn from it but the one he received took things to far.
  •
I think they went a little too far with the punishment. They could've suspended him instead.
  •
I think they went too far for the punishment. I understand that it's bad to randomly hurt people, but expelling him is too much.
  •
I agree that it went to far.

Education Should Be About Building Democratic Citizens, Not Compliant Workers - 7 views

  •
While the article is about South Africa, many of it's points ring true for America. Education, when you think about it in the deepest manner, is not really about Education; it's about proving you'd be a good worker, and not much else. But I'm curious to see what others think.
  •
I agree with the article about how schools should focus on building democratic citizens, instead of just good workers. Young people need to know their rights and how they can impact the country, and some places don't do a good job teaching children those things. I've personally learned a lot about my rights in government class, so I think our school is doing a good job.
  •
I believe that the education system in America is mainly about passing more than it is about learning. I feel like I'm working a job and the assignments that I finish are just to get the job done. However, I believe that when students actual learn, understand, and are amazed by different topics, that is the true point of education. In all, while this article was about South Africa, it shows how we shouldn't be focusing on being a good worker but how we should be focusing on becoming better citizens.

CDC Asks States To Plan For Potential Vaccine Distribution Starting In Late October : C... - 2 views

Step1 - get a working vaccine. Step2 - convince more people to take it. There are quite a few people (anti-vax and others) who will be reluctant to take the first round of vaccines. Are you guys ready to get it right away? Should schools require it?
  •
I feel like schools should require the vaccine so school districts can go back to normal a bit sooner.

Defiant Teen Gets Life Sentences in Ohio Shooting - 1 views

There has to be something wrong with this kid. If you read the story and hear what he said to the court and to the families of the victims he shot, you'll understand. It is scary that someone could be so awful.

He deserves what he is getting. I think he new what he was doing the whole time. That school should feel horrible for not having good enough security to let him bring in a gun.
  •
what is wrong with this kid. he is crazy!! now the school should know they need more security so this wont happen again.
  •
Wow, This is shocking. Oddly enough all I could think about the whole time was how do attorneys do their jobs? How in the world could you be strong enough to defend something like that. That young man is sick.
  •
That is terrible! At least he got what he deserved. I don't understand how anybody in their right mind could do such things.
  •
That kid is sick and twist. He doesn't deserve 3 life sentences he deserves the death penatly
  •
I don't understand why nobody saw that there was something wrong with this person he isn't exactly sane it seem I mean to go and kill people for one, then to go to court and act like he did why didn't anyone try and stop him.
  •
People like this don't do well in Prisons. He'll most likely have a very rough life where he's going, especially after what he has said. He'll "get what is coming for him" and I honestly feel no pity, even though I do believe he should be charged as an adult. This is disgusting. I would not have been able to rest easy if I were in that court knowing the guy is in jail after what he had done, let alone what he had said, he deserves way worse than what he got. He obviously took pleasure in killing those innocent students. Good luck in prison, mate, because you are certainly going to need it if you don't want to end up as cold as those concrete walls you'll be surrounded by. Either that or he'll end up as Big Jerry's finger puppet.
  •
The death sentence would be an easy way out for him. Spending your entire life rotting away in jail having your actions hung over your head is a much better punishment in my opinion. Not to mention, killing someone else will not bring your loved ones back or make you feel better, at least it shouldn't anyway. I read a story about a woman's 6 year old daughter who had been kidnapped and murdered, but she did not wish to have the man killed, because she said, "How do I honor Susie and Susie's life and the goodness and sweetness and beauty of who she was? To kill somebody in her name would be an insult to her memory." I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I just think life sentence without parole is a better option.

Increased security at schools following California girl's stabbing death - 1 views

  •
This is a big shake up in a place where many people have been so comfortable for so long. And the little brother will never be the same.. finding his sister stabbed to death..? I can't imagine.
  •
how did someone manage to get a knife in school and still be able to stab someone without being seen by anyone so i think they should have more security.
  •
It's sad to know that there are people out there who do these horrible things for no reason.
