Poll: Trump approval falls as majority of Americans brace for recession - POLITICO - 1 views

  •
Even if his approval rating drops at all, I don't believe people are going to stop saying he's a "great" president.
  •
I think it's interesting that the article claims Americans are bracing for a recession. We have a record high DOW Jones stock, unemployment is decreasing (more than 20 million new jobs since 2010), and Americans, in general, have more money in their pockets than we did 3 years ago. https://ig.ft.com/sites/numbers/economies/us/ It also piques my interest that the article claims the Trump approval rating as a whole is falling. After the democratic debates, Donald Trump has only increased in followership, rally attendance, etc. This is the reason people keep saying he's a "great" president. You might not like him as a person, I might not like him as a person, but if he continues to put a dent in the public debt, and continues to uphold basic constitutionalist ideals, he will continue to see success in America. I think it's interesting and I predict that the 2020 election will play out very similarly to the 2016 election. The democratic party did everything in their power to stop Trump from becoming president. Both Republicans and Democrats alike turned to personal attacks and scandals. Even if all the candidates are bad, we have to pick the best one. Trump was able to win against the Democrats because they didn't have any solid plans with evidence for the policies they wanted to implement. Trump has an upper-hand because he's never changed too. Democrats have flipped like no other when it comes to policies because they are desperate to be approved of by the younger masses. Trump has always supported a smaller government, focused on the economy, and wanted stricter foreign relations. The same cannot be said about Democrats, their talking points are that of enabling a welfare state, stripping citizens of their 2nd amendment rights, and their false sense of acceptance. tl;dr: orange man bad, but doing his job well.

Rats are being trained to detect explosives. - 18 views

  •
SWEET!! But I bet the people making bombs will make the trigger's more sensitive...but for now, the rats are a good alternative and cheaper too. What I am wondering is, how effective are rats at "letting" people know where there is a bomb. In this article/video, they placed a "test" bomb on the ground and the rat sniffed it out, but did they know only when the rat made it to the bomb and assume the rat had found their planted bomb and then rewarded the rat? Or did they wait for the rat to give them a "sign"?
  • ...3 more comments...
  •
Rats are both smart and cute. I think it would be pretty cool if rats could detect bombs... They're the second smartest rodent in the world; they could make a hole in someones wall, and leave it alone for about an hour and then return to that hole, unlike mice who would get confused and make a different hole in the wall. Rats would be pretty easy to train to detect bombs, then give humans signs. I think this would be great.
  •
I like the idea of them using a smaller animal and one that is also intelligent because that is less money and less of a worry of putting larger animals in a more risky situation.
  •
If only all rats were trained to detect bombs. New York would be set...
  •
why not just let the rats run over the bombs to be able to blow up the bombs and it won't be a problem anymore.
  •
Because if the rats set off the bombs they would destroy whatever the bomb was put to destroy? Obviously that is a horrible idea.

Branstad signs laws restricting wages, workers' compensation - 2 views

"Gov. Terry Branstad has signed into law a ban on local governments raising the minimum hourly wage and another law changing Iowa's workers' compensation system."
  •
I think it was reasonable for Gov. Terry Branstad to place a law on banning minimum wage increase. We have a good minimum wage that meets the circumstances of living in iowa. It's not nearly as expensive as other big cities like Chicago or San Diego. I also think it was good he took into account the workers' compensation.

Why do people do this kind of stuff?

I'm curious if this is linked to a specific terrorist group or not. They say the culprit has ties to Kyrgstan, but no terrorist groups have come forward to claim responsibility yet.

Trump: 'All options are on table' after NK missile launch - ABC News - 9 views

I think North Korea was trying to taunt Japan in a way. The missile flew only over the airspace, instead of being a direct hit on their soil.

Stockton's mayor wants to give residents $500 a month, no strings attached - Oct. 27, 2017 - 21 views

I feel like if the whole nation did this and then cut everything else we would literally just be back at square one. It would not make a difference.
  •
This is crazy. This could help so much. We could get rid of welfare it that could be just like welfare.
  •
this is a very good idea and the results can be awesome and could chage and save lives from a lot of bad stuff. but we need to find a way to fund this idea. i think if we use the welfare money to fund it. we could get rid of the welfare and then we can make sure every one is taken care of with the basic income instead.
  •
I feel this would benefit so many people so much. And besides they say Canada is a pretty well-off country, so why not do this?
  •
i think that this would be good for some people to get this money like this to help them through tough times
  •
This is a great idea. Many people do not have the money to get by even though they might work long hours. The only problem is that some people will abuse this, and by drugs or alcohol, or even lottery tickets.
  •
The people could benefit from this so they could use it will bills, grocers, and things they need, but on the other hand they could miss use the money you are handing out. So is this a good thing? or not?

This could definitely help the poor family's who don't have enough money.

Former South Carolina officer to sentenced in killing of unarmed black man - CNN - 12 views

  •
"In May, Slager pleaded guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law after a murder trial ended in a mistrial. He admitted he didn't shoot Scott in self defense and said he used excessive force. Federal prosecutors are seeking a life sentence. Prosecutors believe Slager committed second-degree murder and should also be punished for obstructing justice."
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I think those punishments are completely necessary and he deserves it. There's stories like this all the time but a lot of cops won't admit to not shooting them for self defense.
  •
I think that the officer should get life in prison for killing this man. The man ran but there's other options than firing your gun at him, there was no threat to the officer, he was unarmed, and the officer said he used force that was unnecessary.
  •
The cop shouldn't of shot the man in the back, there was no threat towards the officer. If the man pulled a knife or a gun out then I'll see why the police officer shot him, but because the man had no weapons on him and was just running way he shouldn't of gotten shot.

Biden and Congressional Democrats to Unveil Immigration Bill | Newsmax.com - 5 views

  •
I'm happy that Biden wants to give citizenship to immigrants. I don't understand why some people are mean to immigrants when the foundation of the U.S. is and has always been immigrants. They help with construction, and they work in the fields that produce fruit and vegetables that we see in stores, but they live in fear of being separated from their families. So I think this is a great step forward for the Biden administration, but I do agree there should be some restrictions to make sure that those who become citizens deserve it.

In general, Americans need undocumented workers. They are the ones who show up and actually need the money or else they have no home. They come to the US for a better life and work very hard, but get criticized essentially for not being born in the United States. This article in the American Conservative gives a better view on immigration and why it is seen as a necessity. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/why-blame-mexico/
  •
This seems like a good idea, immigrants finally get a break and a place they can stay safe. With the chance at a better life and don't have to live here illegally. Maybe they can finally be at peace without worry.
  •
I personally don't agree with this because we could be potentially giving U.S citizenship to a criminal and although it is a fact that it takes too long to process an immigrant to the U.S I still think it is not right to come to the U.S illegally.

Advocates sound alarm as restrictive voting laws pile up | TheHill - 7 views

  •
People are trying to restrict voting rights, while other's are trying their hardest to expand them. States have already started to ban the bill that would expand on those rights and it's honestly sad.
  • ...3 more comments...
  •
The article discusses how states are trying to implement restrictive voting laws. I understand that after the 2020 election, there is a lot of suspicion surrounding voting fund. However, I think we should ensure that these new voting laws aren't another way to discourage people from voting. The article claims that voting fraud is "exceedingly rare," so it's clear that some legislators want to stop certain groups of people from voting to fit their needs, which is very wrong.
  •
voting restriction is the largest enemy of democracy and the fabricated campaign of voter fraud being an issue is terrible to go and say that with less than 2000 confirmed fraud cases in the last 40+ years there is a problem and that who can vote needs to be restricted is absurd this is no different than post civil war voting laws like a literacy test and the grandfather clause and the arguments supporting them are no different either
  •
Funny how the same people who say all lives matter are the people trying to restrict people's voting rights. I thought we were all equal??
  •
I feel like we shouldn't people's right to vote, it's a right that should be left alone.
  •
I don't think they should restrict the voting laws, it's fine as it is.

  •
Cases are going to keep going up over the holidays.
  •
people are still getting together in big groups for the holidays and the number of cases is going to rise more and more.
  •
I'm sure no matter how you look at it, the cases will drastically go up in December. Especially since Christmas is rolling around, we saw how many families and people still gathered together for Thanksgiving. It's not going to be any better for Christmas.
  •
This is just going to get worse after black friday if nothing changes.
  •
thanksgiving and christmas are both holidays that are meant to be spent with your families so there was already no doubt that cases were going to go up. and same goes for black friday, you're shopping at multiple different stores in the span of two or three days
  •
Many people are spending time with their families around this time so there was no doubt that cases would have gone up. I'm just surprised they went up so drastically and in such a short period.
  •
we all suspected the rate of infection would go up during the holidays. meeting with people from all over the country definitely increases the amount of exposure a family can receive. people can choose to connect virtually instead of in person. it's not the same, but it decreases the exposure

McConnell Votes To Dismiss Trump Impeachment Trial As Only Five Senate Republicans Side... - 10 views

  •
This process took too long to complete before Trump left office. Now some feel that finishing the Senate trial is a waste of time. What do you think?
  • ...6 more comments...
  •
McConnell is an utter ghoul. Trump, even in the long tradition of criminal presidents, is in a whole 'nother league, and absolutely should be tried for his many, many crimes. The idea that just because he's out of office shouldn't be a factor. That would be like saying a hitman shouldn't be tried for murder just because they quit.
  •
impeaching trump is only going to hurt the Biden admin, the first 100 days are they most important but now with the senate trial people are going to be more focused on that then the thing Biden is doing
  •
If you label Trump as a criminal then you would have to label every other politician as one as well. The fact that he's not in office not only makes him a civilian but trying him at the federal level, just to block him from running again in 2024 is pointless and a waste of congressional time. As well as the American government needs to put the focus on other things than an ex-politician, let's start worrying about getting money to the American people and getting vaccines out.
  •
If the Senate does not vote to impeach Donald Trump it will prove that a President has the power to do whatever he wants as long as his/her party is in the majority. Also, I know that if President Biden was to do the same thing and literally incite a riot on the Capitol then house republicans and republican voters would be calling for impeachment. No matter what party you are, doing what Former President Trump did is disgusting and justice has to be served.
  •
Just like the last impeachment, this one is a waste of time. We need to focus on the US and not Impeaching Trump. Given the current situation, we do not have the time to impeach Trump. If we impeach him it's going to be another 3 months of wasted time just like the last impeachment.
  •
I feel like people tend to judge Trump on how he acts rather than what he has done. Yeah he acts childish but if he's done good things why cant he be credited for it.
  •
I think they should not try impeaching again because now that Trump is out of office they don't have to worry about whatever he does. America has several other huge problems and needs to focus all of its attention on getting life back to normal before worrying about a man that's not in any federal position.
  •
Commenting of what ndvorak said here. I do, in fact, believe most politicians are criminals. Every politician that has not tried to use their powers to quell deaths during Covid, or tried to stop our shipments of weapons to Saudi Arabia, or tried to stop our use of drone warfare, they have blood on their hands.

Education and Child Policy | Cato Institute - 2 views

  •
I think there are some things the school or parents have the right to do. The parents have the right to send them to whatever school they and their child choose. The school has the right to restrict the child from doing certain things that could result in a code of conduct brake. According to the government, they say a child must attend school until they are 18 and are considered an adult. I believe that is all the government should be allowed to do. It's then up to the student to continued their education or go into the workforce.
  •
I think that the government's power should be to help people get an education, but it's up to the parents and students to decide where to go and if they want to go on for more schooling. For some jobs, college might not help as much as a trade school, and that's a decision for the parents and student to decide.
