Miriam Carey was the girl in the car at the Capitol shooting. - 1 views

  •
OK I want YOUR opinions on this issue... Was it appropriate for the capital city police shoot her once her car had crashed? She had no weapon, but were they acting to protect public safety? What is your view?
  • ...6 more comments...
  •
In my opinion, they shouldn't of shot her. I'm almost sure that the reason they had chosen to take this action is because they feared that she was trying to attack the white house. It's likely that if the thought that she might be targeting the government wasn't an assumption that had been made, she wouldn't of been shot. That represents inequality in our society, because had it been anyone else that seemed like a target, this person wouldn't of lost her life. Her car was already crashed, and no weapons were in her possession. Knowing that, how could she of been a threat to the public in any way?
  •
She tried to run her car into the white house. She knew what she was doing. She knew she would end up in jail or in trouble at least. If your going to do something stupid, and try to endanger several people's lives over something you can't control, then whatever happens, happens.
  •
I think she was using her vehicle as a weapon but I don't think that means that they needed to shoot her. I think she was crazy for having her kid in the car with her and they should have arrested her to then be able to question her for her actions now they'll never know.
  •
They shouldn't have shot her. They probably did it to avoid more paper work and hassle. Always looking for a reason to kill people who defy the government. Plus she wasn't the only one in the car. Talk about devastating.
  •
It was okay that she was shoot. Because what if she had a bomb. And she was a threat to national security that is why she was shoot
  •
I think they shouldn't have shot her.Especially since her one year old daughter was in the vehicle and probably witnessed the horror of her mom being shot and killed in front of her.
  •
No it wasn't right to do that. Yes they were trying they could of shot somewhere else on her that wouldn't of killed her but just got her to stop what she was doing.
  •
They should have shot her in the arm or leg just to stop her but to kill her in front of her kid is wrong. But she was also wrong for bringing her child with and putting her in a dangerous situation.

Father's lesson is deadly for 19-year-old son Tyler Comstock as he is shot and killed by police - 4 views

  •
This is absolutely crazy! This is a perfect example of police crossing the line of authority. He was killed because he wouldn't shut off the truck. His dad was trying to teach him a lesson, not kill him.
  • ...14 more comments...
  •
I agree with Hayli, I don't understand why they had to shoot at him they could of shot at the tires or somewhere on the truck. so many killings have been happening by miss observations and cops killing innocent people.
  •
This is a total abuse of power. There are so many other ways you could stop a driver. They should have backed off like Ames suggested
  •
Just because you have a right to have a gun and fire if needed, doesn't mean you should every time a person isn't cooperating.
  •
Yet again another case where the police have gone to far. With the government protection will these cases ever stop? Yeah they fire one guy then the next day you hear about it in a different state. Where is the punishment?
  •
I agree with Ladasia it is another example of total abuse of power.
  •
This is a great example of the police abusing there power. Yet there is no consequences for the police that shot a 19 year old that would not turn off his truck engine.
  •
The police should be fined and fired from their jobs! They abused their power.
  •
another example of abuse of there power
  •
To pursue a stolen vehicle and pull them over is one thing but to need your weapons at all when the father is the one who called the police and use that much force is pointless and life wasting as we can see.
  •
They shot at a person who was unarmed and wasn't trying to hurt anybody, yet they chased him down and killed him like a criminal. This doesn't make sense.
  •
I agree with Hayli because all he was doing was teaching a lesson! Not try to kill him!
  •
This is a terribly unfortunate story. But I agree with the decision that the policemen made. The boy was driving recklessly and not cooperating on a college campus. If it had escalated much more they would have been putting the university in danger.
  •
Not the best story I've heard..thoughts and heart goes out to the family..
  •
Where was the escalation, Jackson? They could have smoked him out, they have tassers, there are all sorts of non-lethal things Cops are trained in for this kind of situation. Yet here they with out their guns and mow him down with shots to the head. There was no need for that.
  •
Sad stuff out there. And it kinda hits home considering this took place here in Iowa...
  •
Not that I want to admit it, but last year I got in HUGE trouble because I told my mothers car multiple times without permission. What if they would have wanted to teach me a lesson? Would I get killed just because I had a moment of bad decisions? This makes me think how easily this could have been me.

Shocked Jordanians rally behind king, against ISIS after video of pilot's killing - 9 views

  •
The shocking images of a Jordanian Air Force pilot being burned alive in an outdoor cage by ISIS terrorists have galvanized the country, once seen as possible fertile recruitment ground For the group, behind King Abdullah II's calls For a stepped-up military campaign.
  •
I think that Jordan is doing the right thing because what ISIS did was very inhumane and they deserve to be fought back. They can't just go around burning people alive just to give a message.
  •
ISIS burning a pilot and video taping it is very inhumane and they deserve to be punished for their actions. Jordan is doing the right and uniting as a country to avenge one of their own. Jordanians standing behind their King and their military is good for their country and good for taking down ISIS.

Special Report - Nebraska v. Colorado: The War on Weed - 22 views

  •
"Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson in western Nebraska as he built the state's lawsuit against Colorado. His ultimate goal is to shut down the pot industry. "To me, people are being sold a bill of goods from people who stand to make millions from this industry. Our culture is at a pretty critical time where a whole generation of youth are at risk and adults need to step up and say this is a real potential harm to fight against.""
  • ...11 more comments...
  •
I feel that if they try to close down the pot industry they will just be wasting their time. People will still be using marijuana even if its not legal or being grown.
  •
I think that if people try and shut down the pot industry, that it will be hard and it wont be easy. pot users and pot lovers will always use pot and will do all most anything to keep it legal.
  •
It surprises me that the traffic related fatalities in people who had marijuana in their systems has been raised so much. I didn't realize it was that big of a problem. Maybe adults do need to fight back more for this potential harm.
  •
I don't feel they should be fighting this war. This because they don't have a valid point saying that marijuana is harmful in all actuality peanuts kill more people annually than marijuana and actually there hasn't ever been a death directly caused by it. Further more alcohol and cigarettes are far more harmful and are still legal.
  •
I think Nebraska has every right to sue the state of Colorado because they can't contain it in their state. That or they need to change their law saying only people who have a Colorado ID can purchase it.
  •
I feel like legalizing Marijuana is a good idea in my opinion. It can be used to help man medical conditions and also is saving people's lives that really need it. It is used as a stimulate. If the government would legalize it they would make a profit by taxing the product. Therefore benefiting themselves. People are going to do what they want with marijuana, there would have to be certain restrictions on it though. I don't think Colorado will regret this law because it's not only helping them but their society.
  •
i feel like nebraska is just doing everything it can to get its way and not let the people have what they want. if nebraska would just make it legal, these problems would cease
  •
Although people are going to continue to use marijuana illegally, that doesn't mean we should stop trying to clean our states of it. Shutting down the pot industry may take awhile, but it's a good goal.
  •
I can see why Sheriff Adam Hayward of Deuel County, Nebraska, would want it shut down. It has a dispensary near their county, and makes it a little easier to bring marijuana into Nebraska. And may cost more for patrolling.
  •
I think no matter what you do marijuana will always be here. At least as long as it continues to grow people will continue to use it. I think Nebraska has a good point on how it is affecting costs for more paroling and road searches for people trying to sneak the drugs over, but the world is changing in so many ways and people just need to learn to adapt. I think Nebraska needs to find a way to adapt some how because it's their state thats having problems don't blame Colorado.
  •
This should not be tolerated, Colorado is Colorado and Nebraska is Nebraska. There's different laws.
  •
The only reason I am for the legalization of marijuana is because medical marijuana could help my mother. She has a severe nerve condition called trigeminal neuralgia. This is an inflammation if the main nerve in the face. There is research to suggest that medical marijuana could ease the suffering of people like her without all the health risks with what they use now as treatment. The current treatment is round the clock narcotics and this damages the liver. My mother already has liver damage so this could be a safer alternative.
  •
I think Nebraska could be taking it a bit to far with going to court about it be I also think Colorado could be doing more to prevent this.

Memphis took down two Confederate statues. State lawmakers are punishing the city for it - CNN - 0 views

  •
"lawmakers in the Tennessee House passed an amendment to a state appropriations bill that strips $250,000 in funding that the city was to receive for its upcoming bicentennial celebration. Rep. Steve McDaniel, admitted this was in retaliation for Memphis removing the Confederate statues."

Sheriff says baby dies after being left in car by mistake | Fox News - 31 views

    This is ridiculous

  •
How do you forget about the very thing that was growing inside you for 9 months
  •
everyday i lose more faith in humanity
  •
Was she on anything. You think she would have heard the child in the back claiming she thought she dropped the child off.
  •
How do you forget your 8 month old son is in the backseat?
  •
You can;t forget a baby. They will cry and you would know if you loved and cared about your child as to if they would still be in the car or not.
  •
If you forget about having your baby in the car, then that's just considered bad parenting and she should just be charged.
  •
New parents have been shown to be more forgetful right at first because of the huge change in life that they don't realize it. But this is going way to far with it, death happened, usually it's only for a minute not long enough for an infant to die.
  •
i don't feel like it was on accident i think they meant to do it but they didn't mean to be gone as long but time just didn't intend for anything wrong to happen
  •
I find the reason to be incredibly sketchy, but I do believe the mother did not mean to kill her child. Perhaps she left her child in the car and meant to only for a small amount of time but forgot?
  •
    This is crazy
  •
I don't think she intentionally killed her kid but it's crazy how you can forget about your baby being let in the car
  •
    How do you just forget?
  •
How forgot your child? this is so sad
  •
That's insane why wouldn't the mother check the backseat before she got out of her car.
  •
I don't think you can just forget your child in a car, this child normally always has your attention
  •
    I can't believe this.
  •
If she said she really dropped him off at the daycare center she would have been conscious of taking him there. Also there should be footage of her dropping him off. If it shows she never showed up, shes obviously lying about that instance and there is more to the story.
  •
okay first off, if you need your purse or something material in the back to remember you have a baby, you shouldn't have one. second off, what the heck did she do when she went to the daycare? how did she imagine giving the baby over to the daycare or something?
  •
how do you forget about your child that is only 8 months old. This is just heart breaking.
  •
Completely heartbreaking. How can you "forget" about a child?
  •
This is really sad and I don't think should ever happen to anyone this is ridiculous and people need to pay attention and start checking and making sure to check there front and back seats even if they don't have any kids.
  •
She shouldn't be having kids. How do you think that you dropped your kid off at daycare if they were still in the back seat. This is ridiculous.

NCAA fixes women's weight room for March Madness after getting called out - syracuse.com - 12 views

  •
Some people think the NCAA is still playing favoritism between Men's and Women's basketball. Having smaller gyms, Haveing women courts being played on the same that volleyball games use, Having the men's basketball TV Schedule name be "NCAA Basketball Tournament " and not be identified (A little confusing point but people had an issue. ) So what do you think of the 3 problems above? What other changes do you think need to be made?
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
I think giving the women a new weight room was the right thing to do. They are both playing in one of the biggest college tournaments in the US and they deserve to be treated fairly. I also think it's great that some big-name NBA players came forward to address the situation to help bring more attention to it.
  •
Giving the women the better weight room was definitely the smart choice. They definitely deserve it, but I see why it wasn't there in the first place. The NCAA loses money every single year having a women's tournament so they just put more money into where they were getting the most money. It was still not fair at all and the girls don't deserve that.
  •
I believe that it's insane that this situation even happened. If the women had just gotten a weight room like the men's from the beginning, then this whole situation could have been avoided. It's honestly laughable that officials gave the women just a single rack of dumbbells thinking that it would be fine. In all, I'm glad that they fixed their mistake but this situation could have been easily avoided.
  •
I think that it was a messed up situation it was like that before and that should have happened a while ago. The women's team deserves a good gym to work out in with the right accessible tools to get their workouts in. They should be having the support to grow individually and as a team.
  •
I'm glad that this issue was addressed, and apologized for. It was so unfair for the women who played sports
  •
I think that giving the women a new and improved weight room was the smart choice. It is unfair for men to have a superior weight room over women.
  •
Adding more weights and improving the weight room was the right thing to do. But why would they give women so much less than the men. Both genders have equal talents so why discriminate between them.
  •
I'm glad that the women got an improved weight room. It is kinda sad how no one would of known about this if the women wouldn't have said anything about it.
  •
I think giving the women a new weight room was a good choice, it's good that they addressed the problem. But the fact that it was a problem in the first place is kind of ridiculous. It could have been easily avoided if they had just given the women's team a proper weight room to begin with.
  •
I don't think it was fair that the weight room was not just like the boy's weight room! It is kinda sad that no one would have known about this if the women wouldn't have said anything about it.

South Carolina adds firing squad to execution methods after running out of lethal-injection drugs - ABC News - 20 views

  •
"Politicians in South Carolina have voted to add a firing squad to the state's execution methods amid a lack of lethal-injection drugs"
  • ...16 more comments...
  •
South Carolina has the electric chair and now a firing squad as their execution methods. It's absurd that the firing squad passed and that South Carolina is now the fourth state to allow this. Personally, I don't believe that there should be any execution methods and this just seems completely crazy to me that a firing squad is now one.
  •
I find it kind of funny they would use a firing squad. It is a waste of money and a lot more extra work and time spent on worthless people. I believe executions for those kinds of people should be quick, easy, and cheap. Firing squads just seem ridiculous especially since it's not like they are being attacked and need to use multiple people for one person.
  •
I don't understand why they would choose a firing squad of all things. I feel like there are more humane ways to execute someone but I suppose some people may want to go out with a bang.
  •
I don't understand why this is even a thing. No one should be sentenced to death and if they were sentenced to death, it should be a humane way, not a firing squad or electric chair.
  •
This is just stupid. This would be such a painful and awful way to go, even if you did something bad enough to get sentenced to death. Imagine what these people's families would be thinking, watching their son or daughter getting shot to death.
  •
I don't understand why South Carolina thinks this should be aloud. Granted the death would happen anyway but having people line up and shoot people just seems inhumane and unnecessary.
  •
I personally don't understand how they came to the decision that this was smart or found a way to justify it. I don't think that it is something that is going to be used in other states...hopefully. I think that this should be intervened by the national government considering how inhumane the idea is.
  •
I agree with Joey, this seems like a recreational activity that fire squads would enjoy participating in, rather than an act of justice.
  •
I think this is a pretty cruel punishment even for large criminals and seems like its more for the firing squad than it is about justice.
  •
Having a firing squad as an execution method is ridiculous. It's a cruel and inhumane punishment that shouldn't be used, and the fact that four states have it listed as an execution method is disturbing.
  •
I think that there should be a death penalty in cases where the criminal is too dangerous to be kept in captivity but a firing squad is an insane method. Not only is it a waste of money, time, and effort but do they really need a full firing squad for one person? That just makes no sense and seems nothing but cruel and disturbing.
  •
I disagree with this they should not be adding new way of execution. This a cruel way to punish people and it should not be allowed. There are other way to punish people other than getting violent.
  •
I think a firing squad is very extreme. I think the death penalty in general is very extreme. I can't believe South Carolina is the 4th state to allow this as well. There are definitely other ways to go about this than a firing squad or a death penalty at all.
  •
I don't believe as we are such an advanced society that we should resort back to such a harsh capital punishment.
  •
I can't see a death sentence not being a cruel punishment let alone the electric chair as the method, but South Carolina seeking to go further by adding the firing squad is even worse the fact that anyone would be convinced this is acceptable is astounding to me and shows the disconnect people have from the people around them
  •
I really hope they get more injections, so the executions can be more humane again
  •
Honestly, lethal injection isn't any better they still suffer even with that method so I don't really see a problem with this because they will be killed either way.
  •
I think a firing squad is a more humane death than lethal injection. Trained men with rifles and a well-placed shot to the head are the swiftest way to go.

Coronavirus: Why are infections rising again in US? | AllSides - 40 views

  •
Why do you think the number of cases are starting to rise once again?
  • ...38 more comments...
  •
I think they are rising more because people are getting used to covid now and kind of got less strict about the rules and are taking less precautions.
  •
I believe that the number of cases is rising once again because the weather is getting colder, and viruses thrive in colder weather. I also think it's because people are starting to get used to covid as well and are getting too reckless.
  •
No to mention its flu season so it's almost impossible to know if it's one or the other. It's also been said if you have the flu, but think it's covid and go to get a covid test, it could come out positive even though it's just the flu. Also, it's been proven that the covid test is only 90% or so effective and you can have a false test.
  •
I agree with Abby I think that people are getting sick of having to deal with covid and just want it to be over. I think that this winter we will see a decrease in the number of other viruses and colds like the flu because we are wearing masks.
  •
I agree with "xxchrysxx" I have also read about what you've mentioned. It makes you wonder how valid Covid-19 really is.
  •
Going off of what Abby said, I also agree. I've seen many people walking without masks and not social distancing outside, and I think that's one of the main reasons the numbers are going to keep rising.
  •
I think that because of the cold weather and flu season around the corner, the number will start to rise again.
  •
People are not taking it as seriously as they should and not following guidelines that were put in place to protect us.
  •
I think people haven't been taking COVID 19 seriously, and since it is getting colder and colder it will be harder to contain it.
  •
People started loosening the rules and safety regulations lately, plus this is flue season and cold season so I guess its corona season too
  •
I think people as time is going on are not taking it as seriously anymore. People are going out not always wearing masks or sanitizing or following the rules as they should.
  •
I think that people are kind of forgetting that covid is a serious thing and aren't being as cautious as they were in the beginning. Flu and cold season is also coming and I feel like it will then be hard to tell who has covid or if it is just allergies/ flu.
  •
I think people aren't being as serious with covid as they were before. They are going out in large groups of people, hanging around lots of people and not wearing a mask like they should.
  •
I think people aren't being as serious with covid as they were before and people aren't wearing mask or didn't wear mask correctly.
  •
I believe the numbers are rising again because people have become too comfortable. Covid arrived in the united states around January 20-22 of 202. Covid will have been around for 9 months or so now. That is almost a year that many lucky people have gotten to live through. People are just now assuming that, since they haven't gotten it yet they can be lax about the new protocols.
  •
I think the cases are starting to rise again because states peeled back their lockdown measures and the cases began to rise
  •
I think it is because it is not being taken seriously enough and the lockdown measures are being repealed.
  •
I think that people know how serious this is they just don't care because they want it to be over. Also we should have done a better job with the lockdowns measures.
  •
I think cases are starting to rise because people aren't taking it as serious as they were.
  •
I think cases are starting to rise again because people are tired of the pandemic and aren't taking as much responsibility as they should. I think also social media influencers like TikTok stars and Kylie Jenner having major parties and posting on social media are influencing people to disregard the seriousness of the pandemic.
  •
I think the numbers are rising because people are not being safe and as we get closer to the holidays they have parties and gathers which is where it is probably spreading.
  •
I think that numbers are going to continue to rise dramatically because of the holidays, and people not taking it serious anymore.
  •
I think that people have become complacent and aren't taking the proper precautions anymore, meaning that the numbers are going to steadily rise, especially around the holidays.
  •
I believe the reason why the number of cases is going up so much is that it seems a lot of people forgot that we are still in a pandemic and go out and run around with big groups of people.
  •
I feel since we're so far in the pandemic that people stopped and are not taking it as seriously. that the cases are rising and people are becoming lazy on masks and sanitary needs
  •
I think it's because we have stopped taking covid seriously, we still have parties and only wear masks when we are required to wear them if it was up to us we wouldn't and I know because I go to parties and no one including me wears masks, not proud of it but it's true, no one takes it seriously unless they're affected by it.
  •
i think that it is mainly due the the change in weather. viruses thrive in colder weather. personally i hate wearing a mask and i know a lot of people do too. if you haven't been effected by it, we brush it off because it doesn't pertain to us
  •
cuz people still dont want to wear a mask for sum reason.
  •
I believe it is because it was made political to wear a mask which is simply just embarrassing for America. People now are wearing masks, but for example in our own state Covid-Kim didn't do anything about the virus and didn't make masks mandatory.
  •
Viruses thrive in cold weather, it is colder outside so more people will be inside together, and nobody likes to wear a mask
  •
I feel that covid will rise again due to, yes cold weather but also covid has been going on for over a year and people are tired of it and what to go back to their 'normal' lives when we cant yet because it is still around. people want to get back to there old life so they could be taking off the masks to make themselves feel better but it could bring harm to others.
  •
I think a lot of this has to do with people not taking it as seriously as they did in the beginning because either they personally haven't been affected or they got it and it wasn't that bad. A lot of the governors are also putting out restrictions but the second we begin to decrease the spread or see a drop in covid cases they then lift these restrictions which then causes our cases to rise again.
  •
At the start of COVID, everyone was so much more worried about it. The US immediately went into lockdown, schools closed, and the whole country became a ghost town. Once the CDC released more info to the public about this new virus, however, people stopped worrying as much as they should've been. It flipped from 3 cases and mass hysteria to 25M cases and a more lax attitude. Everyone is tired of this, it's been a year and nothing feels right anymore, so as a society we want to rush into the afterparty and return to our normal lives. But as it's the winter months and COVID hasn't gone away yet, now is especially not the time to ignore the virus. Overall, the cases are still rising because we are letting it happen.
  •
Considering the United States has the highest number of COVID-19 cases on the globe, there should be more light towards getting this over and working towards not having to deal with it at all. Like New York, the entire United States, like other countries, should have done a national lockdown which would have definitely stopped the spread of the cases if fewer people were going out and about. Working towards staying at home and being more cautious will help in the long run.
  •
Well, this is a bit outdated, and I'd like to know what the statistics are now. However, since the U.S. economy was dropping, I don't think they had much of a choice but to drop the quarantine. Plus, there is a lot of people who aren't educated about the effects of covid, and what it could do to people who have weak immune systems.
  •
I believe it is just because people are getting too careless about Covid and won't wear a mask or social distance.
  •
I believe the number is rising up again because people aren't wearing masks, people aren't social distancing and people aren't following the rules and then so they get covid and then pass it on to others.
  •
I definitely agree with the article because by sending hundreds of thousands of kids back to school and in small hallways and classrooms it was destined to increase the spread even with masks. Tables, door knobs, and rails are hard to keep sanitized consistently. It also says that the ages of 18-22 Covid cases increased by 55% nationally.
  •
I believe the number was rising because people are just selfish. There still is a pandemic and people are more concerned about long-term effects of the vaccine but no one is talking about the long-term effects of covid.
  •
I think the numbers back then were rising so quick because people weren't following the covid guidelines, now I feel like things are definitely way better than they were then.

Amy Coney Barrett: what will she mean for women's rights? | Law | The Guardian - 3 views

  •
I'm not surprised Trump decided Barrett was put for this spot. She's not preaching the same things Ginsburg did, Barrett's voice and privilege will not to justice for Ginsburg. That's honestly so disappointing.
  •
Barrett and Ginsburg are two totally different people and Trump had found that Barrett was best fit for this position. He has all of the power to do so and put whoever he feels has the best fit for this

Ginsburg's voice and impact on America are tremendous and forever will be as is any Justice to hold the position of the supreme court. Barrett like any justice does her job serving the court, it shouldn't be a battle upon if one justice is better than the other or if Barrett taking the seat of Ginsburg was too soon or disrespectful when in reality the seat was going to be taken one of these days. Barretts did her job and although it might not be as impactful as Ginsburg she's doing what she was sworn in to do, serve the country and the constitution to its highest level.

Fact check: 1964 law does not create religious exemption from masks - 17 views

  •
People shouldn't be using religion as an excuse not to wear a mask unless they prove that their religion does, in fact, say no masks.
  • ...18 more comments...
  •
I think it should be up to yourself to decide whether or not you want to wear a mask.
  •
Though I respect the foundation and practice of religion I don't think that it should be used to put lives as risk by not wearing your mask in public and potentially exposing tons of people to the virus.
  •
I think religion could be a factor, but they shouldn't use it when it comes to risking other people's health in public and exposing others and yourself; If they are going off of religion itself and not having anything to prove that masks are against their religion. It is important to be respectful and polite to others in public by wearing a mask.
  •
i think everybody should wear mask.
  •
I think that everyone should have to wear a mask not just to protect yourself but other people as well. Religion should not be a factor in wearing a mask and keeping people safe in the long run. Not wearing a mask is selfish and could harm other people when around other people it should be a polite common courtesy.
  •
I think everyone should wear a mask. You could spread covid and harm others because of your decision not to wear one.
  •
I think it should be up to you if you want to wear a mask or not.
  •
Wearing a mask should be an option, no one is forced, but people should consider other's health.
  •
I agree with oli; people should not be using religion as an excuse to not wear a mask unless they can prove their religion does not allow masks. That is disrespectful and selfish to use religion as an excuse if you cannot prove your religion does not allow it. Honestly, everybody should wear a mask it's not that hard, we're all going through the pandemic together just because you think it's too uncomfortable shows your unwillingness to consider others well beings.
  •
Everyone should wear a mask, not only to protect themselves but others too. Not wearing a mask is incredibly selfish. Unless they can actually prove it is against their Religion to wear a mask, then they should be wearing one.
  •
everybody should wear a mask. if you wear mask, it's law risk to get corona.
  •
I think people shouldn't use religion to get out of wearing a mask. The mask itself is not to protect yourself, it's to protect the ones nearby. It's just common courtesy.
  •
Protecting your religious rights is important but you have to be considerate of everyone else as well especially in a time of panic global issue.
  •
I believe wearing masks should be one's choice if they want to or not because at the end of the day it's their body their choice and if you say people should have to wear one in the safety of others than many other laws should be revoked like the Rowe vs wade because abortion is killing another human being bc its an inconvenience to the mother so someone should not have to wear a mask because its an inconvenience to them
  •
I think that If we all are required to wear masks, then even if you are religious, you should too. You shouldn't use your religious views as an excuse to not wear it. We are all required, so we all are going to. I understand where you should be able to choose on if you want to wear one or not, and I'm all for that, but until they say it's your choice, then you should be following the rules and wearing a mask, for the safety of the people that could get really sick from catching the virus.
  •
I think religion should not be a reason to not wear a mask. How do religion and a mask relate?
  •
I think the fact that masks are required for our health shouldn't be an issue with a religion they are both used for a different reasons which both are important.
  •
I think it should be up to yourself to decide whether or not you want to wear a mask.
  •
Wearing masks not only helps you but others around you. It shouldn't be up to your religion to keep others safe. This is a world wide pandemic, why is wearing a mask that big of a deal. Including when it comes to the conversation of religion.
  •
I think people should just wear masks for the safety of them and others, I get it sucks, but it would suck more if someone was dying because you didn't wear your mask, or even worse if you were dying because you didn't wear it.

Mitt Romney 'dyed his face brown' to appeal to Latino voters - 1 views

  •
This was incredibly amusing to me. I would really like to doubt this was his intention (perhaps a terrible spray-tan mishap?), as you would have to think very low of your voters to do so purposely. However, he has also received a lot of flak for seemingly pandering to everyone for votes -- this certainly fits that image.

  •
if he did this on purpose i think that is absolutely ridiculous.
  •
That is crazy. I can't believe that he would do that.. let alone anyone doing that.l
  •
Pretty sure 47% of the Latino population is on government aid, so, he's just doing what he can to try and have any chance of winning the up coming election. After his comments, I am pretty sure he is going to struggle to gain anymore aide.
  •
even if he did "dye his face brown" i dont see how he think's that would get him more votes. probably was like ember stated that it was terrible spray tan or too much sun.
  •
I really don't think Mitt Romney would do this because he is desperate for votes, I think the election is running a very close race. Again, he is only human, it could have been a bad spray tan or too much sun on his face or maybe someone who who was getting him "camera ready" put the wrong shade of make up on his face. It could be a number of possibilities, and for people to assume that he "dyed his face brown" to get more votes is ridiculous.
  •
The tactics politicians do to get any sort of votes, how desperate.

Defiant Teen Gets Life Sentences in Ohio Shooting - 1 views

There has to be something wrong with this kid. If you read the story and hear what he said to the court and to the families of the victims he shot, you'll understand. It is scary that someone could be so awful.

He deserves what he is getting. I think he new what he was doing the whole time. That school should feel horrible for not having good enough security to let him bring in a gun.
  •
what is wrong with this kid. he is crazy!! now the school should know they need more security so this wont happen again.
  •
Wow, This is shocking. Oddly enough all I could think about the whole time was how do attorneys do their jobs? How in the world could you be strong enough to defend something like that. That young man is sick.
  •
That is terrible! At least he got what he deserved. I don't understand how anybody in their right mind could do such things.
  •
That kid is sick and twist. He doesn't deserve 3 life sentences he deserves the death penatly
  •
I don't understand why nobody saw that there was something wrong with this person he isn't exactly sane it seem I mean to go and kill people for one, then to go to court and act like he did why didn't anyone try and stop him.
  •
People like this don't do well in Prisons. He'll most likely have a very rough life where he's going, especially after what he has said. He'll "get what is coming for him" and I honestly feel no pity, even though I do believe he should be charged as an adult. This is disgusting. I would not have been able to rest easy if I were in that court knowing the guy is in jail after what he had done, let alone what he had said, he deserves way worse than what he got. He obviously took pleasure in killing those innocent students. Good luck in prison, mate, because you are certainly going to need it if you don't want to end up as cold as those concrete walls you'll be surrounded by. Either that or he'll end up as Big Jerry's finger puppet.
  •
The death sentence would be an easy way out for him. Spending your entire life rotting away in jail having your actions hung over your head is a much better punishment in my opinion. Not to mention, killing someone else will not bring your loved ones back or make you feel better, at least it shouldn't anyway. I read a story about a woman's 6 year old daughter who had been kidnapped and murdered, but she did not wish to have the man killed, because she said, "How do I honor Susie and Susie's life and the goodness and sweetness and beauty of who she was? To kill somebody in her name would be an insult to her memory." I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I just think life sentence without parole is a better option.

No one should be fired for being gay - 1 views

  •
Discrimination like this is ridiculous and i did not know in some states you could fire employees who are gay.
  • ...4 more comments...
  •
I wasn't even aware employers could do this. That's crazy.
  •
Like the article stated, he lives in a state where he is not protected by the laws. I find this situation ridiculous. You should not be able to fire somebody for their sexual orientation. It just doesn't make sense to discriminate people like this. People should be able to live their life how they want to without people judging.
  •
This is called at-will-employment (you can be fired for any reason except if you are a protected minority class (which sexual orientation is not considered in most states). Seems strange that a boss can fire you "at will" but the logic is that you could quit "at will" so it is equal in that way. There was a case recently of a dentist who fired his assistant because she was too attractive and his wife was afraid it would strain their marriage. He won.
  •
only they should be fired if the costumers are not comfortable with them being gay
  •
This is so crazy why would they get fired just for being gay.?
  •
i think that someone not be able to get fired just because they are gay

Congress Is Quietly Abandoning the 5th Amendment - Conor Friedersdorf - The Atlantic - 2 views

  •
a specific law that has passed both the Senate and the House, and is presently in a conference committee, where lawmakers reconcile the two versions. Observers once worried that the law would permit the indefinite detention of American citizens, or at least force them to rely on uncertain court challenges if unjustly imprisoned.
  •
Personally I believe that the NDAA for 2012 should never have been signed. I also think that it is a little late to try and fix this because people in Congress have already agreed that they want to permanently detain American citizens without trial and now are just trying to save face by "opposing" it. After all the author of that amendment, Senator Feinstein, voted for the NDAA for 2012. What really confuses, and kind of angers me, is that Obama said when he signed the NDAA for 2012 he didn't want that part in the law but he was signing it anyway (I don't have a quote but I'll find one). Now he is trying to defend indefinite detention of citizens in court after a federal judge found it unconstitutional. Another interesting article about this is this one. It shows that even people who generally would work together disagree about this bill: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/18/ndaa-indefinite-detention_n_2326225.html

People are disgusting. The United States leads the world in number of school shootings, ( http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html ). I think we need to focus on mental health more, starting when children are in school. People don't become murderers overnight, or even in a few days.
  •
From what I have heard it is possible that the shooter has suffered from mental illness though out his life. I think what we need to focus on is how these people are getting their hands on guns if they have mental illness or are criminals. In the last four years we have had 20 of the 26 mass shootings. Something has to change. It's not just being able to get guns though. It also has to do with how we as a country view guns. How many of the new movies this year have had some kind of gun violence? How many times in movies are we shown people solving problems by using guns?
  •
There will be a lot to talk about with this tragedy. Here is a link to a page with all the CNN school shooting links in one spot: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/us/connecticut-school-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_inthenews
  •
I think this was a horrible thing cuz its almost christmas and those kids that saw this and are still alive are going to remember this the rest of there lives.
  •
This is very tragic to hear and many people are dealing with the losses of the children or relatives. Sometimes it make me wonder why we have an amendment the right to bear arms if things like this are happening. These were innocent kids with a bright future ahead. It was very devastating for everyone around the U.S to know things like this are happening in our society.
  •
This is an article that I found that talks more about how to prepare for future shooting while also talking about this shooting. http://news.msn.com/us/analysis-how-prepared-can-we-be-for-possible-future-shootings

Man arrested in school abduction - 2 views

I read this and the first thing that comes to my mind is why didn't the sister call the police right away if she was watching?
  • ...8 more comments...

this is very crazy to think it was in our area. I always feel safe here. Melissa that is what I was thinking you watch it happen an call your dad first, and not the police ?
  •
the reason she couldnt get to her right aw was because she was down the street and her dad told her to tell him where they were and he took care of it
  •
It's horrible to think that, today, you can't safely send your children to school. If I were a parent, I would be so uncomfortable with the idea that my child is not safe in school, which is supposed to be the safest of all places for children. Something ought to be done about these criminals. I think they walk away too easily, sometimes.
  •
I agree with you Sidnie very much so. The older sister was letting the guy grab her sister and not doing anything about it? That does not make any sense what so ever. I bet she would have felt very bad if she let the guy go any further than he did.
  •
After something like this happens and your around that area people would on the alert and it easier for people to freak out i believe
  •
Why didn't the sister get out of the car and try to do something if she saw what was happening?
  •
It kind of shocks when you read about these sorts of things, but it doesn't really register how serious till it happens in your own backyard. We always think "oh this won't happen here" ,but when it does, it truly gets to us.
  •
The sister should have called the police straight away. She had no idea if the man was armed so she did the safest thing: not to approach him. It's a scary situation and most people can't think on impulse, the easiest thing would be to get a detailed description of the man and license plate numbers if he were to take her to a vehicle. It's hard just to sit there and do nothing, but sometimes that's the safest thing to do to keep yourself and the victim safe. It wouldn't have done anybody good for both the girls to be kidnapped or harmed. Luckily, however, the girl got away safely and the man was caught.
  •
Was there no one else around to see this? The fact that the father had to come and get the guy, instead of a teacher or another adult that was near by, worries me. Everyone should be watching out for the kids, making the school a more safe environment.
  •
I agree with Meghan in a way. The man could have been armed, and if he were approached the 10 year old would have been in greater danger. But, I also can not wrap my head around the fact that the father AND sister of the child were sitting there and did not call the police until after the girl got away. What were they going to do if he actually took her?

Lawyer says a man is recieving hate mail over the accusation of slapping a baby - 2 views

  •
Being intoxicated or aggravated doesn't give anyone the right to use racial terms towards anyone. And, they don't have the right to slap a child, either. I think this man deserves hate mail.
  • ...9 more comments...
  •
Slapping a child is never okay, and being intoxicated is not an excuse for it either. This man deserves more then just hate mail.
  •
I wouldn't be surprised if he got more than just hate mail, Just because your intoxicated gives you no reason to slap a baby. That baby didn't deserve that.
  •
That guy is crazy, he slapped a little kid in front of a bunch of people, and called it the N-word. He's lucky he's just getting hate mail and nothing more.
  •
just because a baby is crying it does not give anyone the right to slap a baby
  •
I think that this story is a great reminder that our behavior has consequences. He has already been fired from an executive position in his company and has been publicly ridiculed. This in in addition to any sort of legal punishment that he might be facing. His decision to have maybe just one more drink before he boarded the plane was a bad decision with far reaching consequences!
  •
Of course he is being sent hate mail he slapped a baby. What kind of person does that?
  •
If what he is being accused for actually happened he deserves time in prison because for one racism is a terrible thing people don't get to choose what raise they are going to be they are born into it. for two no one in their right mind should every hit a child.
  •
i agree with all your comments it isn't right to slap a child becuase it's crying and it's not ok to use racial terms to anyone it's not cool.
  •
it all depends on the terms of which he did or did not some might say he did in fact slap the baby while others would say he didn't because of the accusation that he did in fact hit the baby but what it all comes down to is that no matter what you still have no right to hit a kid under any circumstances no matter what so he might deserve hate mail or he might not but not racist comments seriously what the f#^5 don't be racist
  •
This story is interesting..if he was intoxicated of any sort, that doesn't make it okay to use the language he supposedly did or hit a child. That's why I don't think it should be allowed to have alcoholic beverages on a plane. People take advantage of it, and you never know what could happen..much like what he's being accused. I think he deserves the "hate mail" he's getting!
  •
Is not right to slap a baby, because he/she is just a little baby who doesn't know nothing yet.

I think the internet in general is such a great resource and If that means the authorities use it to crack down on suspects more power to them! If the suspect post about those illegal activities then its there own fault. I think what many people don't realize is even If you delete something of of Facebook It never really goes away Its on the internet for everyone to see for forever.
  •
I agree with Hope on this, once it's posted, it's posted. Even if you delete it, its still there.
  •
They know the risks if they post something. They know what they are putting out there and if they do they deserve it for at least not being sneaky.
  •
The legality of this is interesting. I would assume that I do have some right to privacy upon getting online, but I also know that I am on something anyone can view at almost any time. So I would have to ask myself a few things if I were to determine the legality of this. 1. Is facebook public even if you have privacy settings? 2. Do privacy settings give you a right to privacy online 3. Is there an assumption of risk for posting anything online? This is interesting to me, I mean, I assume that I have a right to what I text a friend to be a private conversation between my friend and myself. I also know that every text I send, a copy is sent to be stored somewhere, somehow, and can be accessed by someone with legal authority.
  •
Hope worded this perfectly, I couldn't have done better myself. People need to be more aware of how permanent and public the internet is. Think twice before posting online. Try to brainstorm all the possible consequences of what you are posting.
