This is great news. This might trigger a domino effect on the rest of the nation on gay marriage rights. I feel after the 2008 vote on Prop 8 the whole country, not just California, closed the doors on their rights.

I feel like the government shouldnt be able to control who you marry regaurdless of their gender. If you love them you love them. Gay marriage should be allowed in every state.

I'm all for people getting married to who they wish. It's their choice, they should be able to do what they want to be committed and forever bonded.

I think that there should be no problem with what they say getting out into the public. Why should they be censored when we are trying to know what kind of a person they are?

I agree, this degree of censoring isn't just. Where's our First Amendment? And if a government official changes a quote later, then that just means they are not being genuine all the time.

I also agree, when it comes to government officials telling the public their viewpoint, nothing should be censored or revised. The people want to know the truth, no matter what side their on. Politicians are well known as liars and crooks, why does it have to be that way?

Oops. I didn't see that Jeremy had already posted the original article on here. This isn't meant as a rebuttal to his article.

Even if this was a rebuttal to what I posted I think that's a good thing that you put this up. I tend to post news stories that my friends/family send me so I may not always find stories that show views from the other side. It's important to look at issues from all sides to form a proper opinion on things.

Interesting that we talked about the death penalty (8th Amendment issue) in class and then this story pops up! Do you guys feel the death penalty is an acceptable punishment? Is lethal injection the way to go or is there a more humane alternative?

I don't understand the death penalty. Sitting in jail for the rest of your life seems like a better way to punish killers rather than just killing them.

The simple fact behind the death penalty is that the person on death row can not harm or attempt to harm anyone in prison or out cause the people on death row are apparently a danger to everyone around them. Letting someone like that into prison is just going to set them free. They can now kill and get away with it all they are surrounded by is people that did bad so who will care in their mind. Death is the only way to make that not happen.

To be honest, I see that many people at our own school don't take much or any effort to put an end to bullying. Fights are often being encouraged instead of someone trying to stop it, and it's not hard to come across a post that is negatively directed at another student here. People need to start realizing the impact words and actions make, whether it's verbal or over a text.

No one should ever feel like suicide is there way out. Though bullying is so wrong in many ways how will the bullies be charged? These kind of things are tricky to go about because of people exercising their "freedom to speak." Something has to be done soon before any more lives are taken.

It appears Russia conducted a missile test that would technically be banned under the 1987 treaty. The US government hasn't officially warned Russia that it's technically a "violation," but it could be possible they've been testing stuff like this since 08...

This is interesting because I would have thought that the US government would have jumped on the opportunity to call another country out if they broke the terms of a treaty. I also don't know why the missiles are such a big deal because they were just testing them out. They weren't firing the missiles at anyone. It could still be a danger but until that happens I don't really think we should worry about it.

I think the majority of us can say that we aren't too much for government spying on everyone. Glad to hear people are actually trying to change stuff instead of simply talking about it.

Motorists flash lights at each other to warn about lots of different things, such as animals on the road, police being nearby, or slick roads. It would cause more harm than good to outlaw it.

I think the person above me says it well. I don't see a HUGE problem with allowing the lights to be flashed in these situations (though I can see why some may be opposed).

That was completely overreacting. Even if people were vandalizing a house or even a building, opening fire at them is absurd. That man was definitively not thinking because this is down right wrong.

This should not happen, we need to have more laws saying police can not fire at innocent people or should have a warrant for them.

I think its a little suspicious that 2/3s of the plane's passengers were Chinese, yet I still believe there was a malfunction that occurred on the plane instead of an act of terrorism.

I think the plane was sabotaged by someone on the flight. After the loss of communications, the data reporting system, and the transponder both shut off at different times. Maybe.

Veterans are definitely NOT getting the budget they deserve! My Dad was in the Navy for 22 years and we are now retired with a budget that we cannot live on alone. He has to find a job with little luck and it is a struggle from paycheck to paycheck. I personally think Veterans deserve more retirement money for the years and hard work they've put into this country.

You can never trust anyone anymore. The government is suppose to help benefit and support the people, but they only care about themselves. The people who are suppose to protect us shoot us down in a time of need. We go against one another and fight over unnecessary things. We aren't the Worlds greatest country anymore.

This is crazy. The officer had no reason to shoot that man. He was already hurt, couldn't they tell? Police officers need to know what's right and what's wrong because they obviously don't.

RUSH: Okay. We had this as our Morning Update today, but in case you missed it. "School officials in Carmel Clay, Ind., said they lost $300,000 last school year because students are rejecting the healthy menu changes brought on by First Lady Michelle Obama's federal lunch regulations.

Some of the students that are told to pay for the lunch, can't afford it and refuses to pay for it. Who wants [ay for a meal that they don't like and probably won't benefit them? It's the student choice not the schools.

I think this is a good idea, but we need to figure out how to make lunch affordable and healthy all at the same time.

Things like this really upset me because why are we spending so much money on things that aren't successful? I think that only if they do their job should they get paid and not even that much money. Our government spends money so stupidly that I wish people that actually need money could receive it instead of people that aren't even struggling.
