Soon she found herself facing an unlikely predicament. With her U.S. health insurance not covering the mounting medical fees her newborn son requires, the hospital had initially withheld his birth certificate. And without a birth certificate, the U.S. embassy cannot issue a passport for baby Kyuss to return home to Iowa.
Iowa Bans Most Abortions As Governor Signs 'Heartbeat' Bill : The Two-Way : NPR - 21 views

I am glad this law has been put in place. It still protects unborn life but makes exceptions for "rape, incest or medical emergency". I hope other states decide to put this law in place.

i disagree because women should have a choice on what to do with that baby
-
I disagree with this. At 6 weeks there is a very slim chance of knowing whether you are pregnant or not. Many women have irregular periods and can be off by two weeks even. This can lead to people being unable to get abortions before they even know that they are pregnant. Even though this may make exceptions in the terms of "rape" it still is not an effective way or limit
Alabama abortion law passed: Alabama just passed a near-total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest one week after controversial Georgia abortion law - CBS News - 3 views

I agree with this law and feel like it should be the same in every state. There are millions of families out there who have wanted a baby and either couldn't have one or the pregnancy didn't go through as planned. Some people would counter-argument that certain women who get pregnant or have been raped don't think they are fit to be a parent. This is where the women who struggle to have kids can get involved. There are many different options babies can go to if their mother cant take care of them. Abortion is taking a life away and in my eyes is seen as a form of murder.

Children Exposed to Nicotine in Utero Have Lower Reading Scores | SciTech Daily - 1 views

Interesting that they assume nicotene does this. 20% lower scores is pretty concrete results though.

I don't find this surprising. Nicotine is a known mutagen, so I think it's actually foolish to assume that it won't affect fetuses which are exposed to it. It will be interesting to see if this study actually gets any media attention, though. Unfortunately, I doubt it will. People, especially Americans, are usually content to overlook any negative consequences to their actions.
-
A quick google search for the effects of nicotine on fetuses came up with a number of medical journals on the subject. Research into this subject has been done at last as far back as 1996, and smoking cigarettes during pregnancy is documented to have a large number of possible adverse outcomes even worse than poor reading skills, including spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, and sudden infant death syndrome. Here's a link to an article from the Oxford Journal on the subject. http://toxsci.oxfordjournals.org/content/116/2/364.full

Parents consider legal action after South Dakota police use Taser on 8-year-old girl - U.S. News - 4 views

"The parents of an 8-year-old South Dakota girl want the police officer who stunned their daughter with a Taser disciplined, but the police chief said Wednesday that the officer acted properly and may have saved the little girl's life."

If the girls life was in danger or the officers I would see why he would use a tazer but other wise he should of used a different approach.

She was endangering herself and the officer, he used the least harmful weapon he had. He saved that girls life he should not be getting sued. Obviously the parents are blind to their own kids problems, that's what they should be focusing on.

"The decisions will be made by individual countries in terms of what to contribute, and when to contribute it, and in what form and shape they would like to make that contribution."
Iowa Senate OKs 'heartbeat' bill that bans most abortions - 3 views
-
"Lawmakers in the Iowa Senate have approved a bill that would ban most abortions at the first detectable fetal heartbeat."
-
i think this is a good bill because alot of people take advantage of getting rid of a baby. if a heartbeat is detected i dont think you should be able to get rid of it. just have it and put it up for adoption for people who cant have kids.
Ted Cruz's Cancun Trip: Family Texts Detail His Political Blunder - 18 views

Personally, I feel like it was wrong for Ted Cruz to go to Cancun when Texas is freezing and having a power outage. What are your thoughts on this?

Why would you abandon your state when they need you most? Sounds selfish and morally just wrong.
-
I think that Ted Cruz was dumb for this because he is a senator and should be trying to do something about their outages but instead he became selfish and fled to Mexico.
