Police say an Omaha man who came to the aid of a student near Monroe Middle School was shot Thursday morning. Thirty-year-old Dallas Waters told police while driving at 51st and Bedford just before 11:30 a.m. he noticed two teenaged boys pushing a school-aged girl on the sidewalk.

Federal authorities in Omaha say they've broken up a substantial drug ring with the arrest of 11 suspects. FBI Special Agent Weysan Dun hopes the sting will bring a sizeable disruption to drug trafficking in the region. Agent Dun says, "These individuals are suspected of being significant sources of much of the methamphetamine that is being trafficked in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa."

A Nebraska sex offender with a history of registration violations has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison. A news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says 36-year-old Joseph Reynolds must serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison.

Woman Violates No Dogs Probation Order A 49-year-old Iowa woman on probation for dumping 23 dead or dying dogs in a Nebraska cornfield in 2008 has admitted violating probation by living with 13 dogs. A judge told Denise Withee, of Mapleton, Iowa, that she'll be re-sentenced on April 26 and that she could face prison time.
