Mexican President: We will not pay for the wall - 9 views

  •
How dumb can Trump be? How does he expect Mexico to pay for a wall that could potentially cost them billions?
  • ...12 more comments...
  •
I understand why Trump wants to build a wall but why does he expect Mexico to pay for it when it's clear they don't want the wall to be built in the first place.
  •
Why does he think building a wall is going to accomplish anything? If they are determined to get the US than it will happen whether we want it or not. We just have to find a way to know if they are here to harm us or are at peace with us and just want a better life.
  •
I agree with Kim ^ the wall isn't going to do anything because if someone wants to come to America they're going to anyways
  •
Mexico shouldn't have to help pay for the wall to be built. Donald Trump wants the wall to be built so I think that he should pay for it.
  •
I agree with Mallori and Kim. Its his ideas to keep the Mexicans out of the U.S. Why would he even think their president would help build it?
  •
I get what Trump is doing, he does not what people to just come over to America from Mexico but making them pay, I don't think that will happen. The people in Mexico will find other whys to get in still, we just have to make hard for them to get in just like Canada is hard to get in.
  •
I think trump's idea of having a wall built is dumb because people from mexico will still try to get over that wall. And its not fail to all the people who got deported and there's still people here living illegally. I mean they aren't really doing anything wrong, or hurting anybody.
  •
I understand that Mexico should help pay for the wall it wants and proposes to do President Trump because that way it would help a lot in the control of immigrant people
  •
i agree with mallori, i dont think the wall will stop much
  •
Mexico's president has every right to deny this wall, and Trump insisting that he pay for something against his wants is absurd.
  •
If you are building a fence for your house, does your neighbor pay it? I don't think so and neither should Mexico. If he wants a wall so badly, then he can take it out of the taxes of all the people who voted for him in the first place.
  •
I agree with Ayin, Trump can't force Mexico to pay for something he wants.
  •
I agree with Ayin and Lauren. Trump can't make Mexico pay for the Wall and if I was Mexico I wouldn't be paying for it anyways. It's not like they helping the illegal immigrants from jumping the border. They are trying to prevent it just as much as the United States is. If he wants the wall so badly then he can build it himself.
  •
Making Mexico pay for the the wall is literally going to your neighbors house with your cable bill and asking them to pay for it, they're not going to do it. It's going to cost Americans to put up this wall, and if Trump wants it to be so big and great the more it's going to cost.

Norway mass-shooting trial reopens debate on violent video games - CNN.com - 3 views

  •
Norway's alleged mass killer testified on Thursday that he played video games as a way to train for a shooting spree that killed 77 people last summer. In particular, Anders Behring Breivik said at his trial that he played "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" as a means of shooting practice, according to CNN's report.
  •
Best comment I've read so far about this topic was a Tweet from Tom Wilsdon "If people were influenced by video games, then the majority of Facebook users would be farmers by now." http://i.imgur.com/PTLGS.jpg

If video games influenced real life, the 80's would have been filled with Italian Plumbers and really bad Russian Architects.

Todd Akin, GOP Senate candidate: 'Legitimate rape' rarely causes pregnancy - 2 views

  •
This is really having some political fallout for Akin's comments even within his own party... http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/08/22/ryan_called_akin_to_get_him_to_drop_race.html
  • ...4 more comments...
  •
I can only hope that he does drop out of the race. I don't believe that anyone as ignorant as he seems to be is fit to be a Senator. I would have hoped that if someone were a pro-life advocate they could at least take the time to understand the reproductive system. Not to mention that "legitimate rape" is possibly one of the most offensive things you could say when discussing this issue. Is he trying to imply that there is non-legitimate rape or does he just not realize what he's saying?
  •
From reading the article I feel as tho they did not get the most current and correct medical information about this subject. I also think candidate Romney is trying to back peddle and correct what he said in a earlier interview and he is not actually legitimately concern with this controversy.
  •
i agree with Mallory I really would not want someone that ignorant being in power of anything
  •
I don't think anyone ignorant and has no respect what so ever should have any power.
  •
This is something I've heard about for the last few days and I really wish I could tell this man how ignorant and stupid he sounds. Does he really think that's true, because if he does then there's obviously something wrong and he needs to get help.
  •
I just wanted to point out that Todd Akin is a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Which I think makes his statement even more ridiculous.

School asks deaf preschooler to change his sign language name - 3 views

  •
Sometimes it seems when rules are too rigidly enforced, silly situations like this make me wonder, - maybe re-word the rule rather than asking a person to change their name...
  • ...8 more comments...
  •
asking a little kid 2 change his name is ridiculous. the boy has a right 2 his own name just like any person does
  •
I think asking a young child to change his name just because they think it looks like a gun when its simply his hand sign to represent his name is ridiculous. It is an actual sign to represent his name and is no way a threat to the other children or staff. Kids that little don't even think of things as weapons like that.
  •
that is crazy that they would ask him to change his name just because of a school rule
  •
that is stupid that a school ask a family just to change the kids name just because of a rule, even though the sign is approved by the S.E.E. And the school also does not have the right to ask the parents to change the kids name when it is the parents right to name their own kid.
  •
I personally think the the school is being ridiculous. He's just a kid, he's not gonna know what a gun is.
  •
That's his name, his identity. They have no right to tell him to change it. He's a child and I see no problem with him and his name sign when it's registered and causing no legitimate harm.
  •
This rule seem very unfair. He has already been saying his name this way for three years. He has no other way to communicate, he can only use his hands. Which i think is ridiculous, they don't make hearing (i don't know how else you would describe them) people change how they say their name. It also doesn't seem to represent a gun in any way, in my thoughts, so it should be fine.
  •
I also find it to be unfair because it's his name, so he shouldn't have to learn or make a new name.
  •
I agree with th Grand Island resident Fredda Bartenback, what little kid would think some harmless sign would be a gun?
  •
He uses the sign language sign for hunter, as in a person who goes out and hunts. He turned it into his name sign by crossing his fingers instead of leaving them flat. While I agree that the school over reacted and he shouldn't have to change it, I think the idea of him "Having to change his name," is a little bit of of a loaded statement. His name will still be Hunter if he changes his name sign it will just be expressed differently. Also according to my mom, who works very closely with many deaf people every day, he may choose to change it later in life once he gets older because this name sign was chosen by his parents and he might not like it.

I find these stupid things that people do are ridiculous. People do not think of how their actions can hurt so many. I do not know why people decide to do actions like these.

this is what happens at football games sometime, if you cant handle it, dont go. you can still watch the game from this new invention we have called the television from the safety of your home.

Football fans aren't even being true fans these days. If they truly respected their team, maybe they'd respect their teams rules. Ohio killer executed with controversial drugs - 0 views

  •
Interesting that we talked about the death penalty (8th Amendment issue) in class and then this story pops up! Do you guys feel the death penalty is an acceptable punishment? Is lethal injection the way to go or is there a more humane alternative?
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I don't think the death penalty is acceptable. We are killing people that kill people to show people that killing people is wrong... It just doesn't make sense.
  •
I don't understand the death penalty. Sitting in jail for the rest of your life seems like a better way to punish killers rather than just killing them.
  •
The simple fact behind the death penalty is that the person on death row can not harm or attempt to harm anyone in prison or out cause the people on death row are apparently a danger to everyone around them. Letting someone like that into prison is just going to set them free. They can now kill and get away with it all they are surrounded by is people that did bad so who will care in their mind. Death is the only way to make that not happen.

Mississippi man who awoke in body bag dies two weeks later - 5 views

that's weird. i wonder how he was still alive if he didn't even have a heartbeat.
  •
As long as someone still has some brain activity they are still technically alive
  •
It must have been a really happy day for the family, and a frightening day for the funeral home workers.
  •
Wow, I do believe miracles can happen. I would've been scared out of my wits if a body suddenly started to move that was pronounced dead, though. But I'm happy for his family who got to spend two weeks with the man (:
  •
That's crazy. It was good for the family though.
  •
I feel as if maybe the person who pronounced him dead maybe didn't go through all the steps correctly because although I do believe in miracles, I don't know if something like that can really happen. He would have had to be only dead for a very short amount of time. But that's great for the family that got to spend 2 more weeks with him.

UK police arrest pair suspected of holding women captive for 30 years - CNN.com - 0 views

London (CNN) -- British police have arrested a couple on suspicion of holding three "extremely traumatized" women captive for more than 30 years, Scotland Yard announced Thursday. One of the women -- a 30-year-old Briton -- "appears to have been in servitude for her entire life," Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland said.

Miriam Carey was the girl in the car at the Capitol shooting. - 1 views

  •
OK I want YOUR opinions on this issue... Was it appropriate for the capital city police shoot her once her car had crashed? She had no weapon, but were they acting to protect public safety? What is your view?
  • ...6 more comments...
  •
In my opinion, they shouldn't of shot her. I'm almost sure that the reason they had chosen to take this action is because they feared that she was trying to attack the white house. It's likely that if the thought that she might be targeting the government wasn't an assumption that had been made, she wouldn't of been shot. That represents inequality in our society, because had it been anyone else that seemed like a target, this person wouldn't of lost her life. Her car was already crashed, and no weapons were in her possession. Knowing that, how could she of been a threat to the public in any way?
  •
She tried to run her car into the white house. She knew what she was doing. She knew she would end up in jail or in trouble at least. If your going to do something stupid, and try to endanger several people's lives over something you can't control, then whatever happens, happens.
  •
I think she was using her vehicle as a weapon but I don't think that means that they needed to shoot her. I think she was crazy for having her kid in the car with her and they should have arrested her to then be able to question her for her actions now they'll never know.
  •
They shouldn't have shot her. They probably did it to avoid more paper work and hassle. Always looking for a reason to kill people who defy the government. Plus she wasn't the only one in the car. Talk about devastating.
  •
It was okay that she was shoot. Because what if she had a bomb. And she was a threat to national security that is why she was shoot
  •
I think they shouldn't have shot her.Especially since her one year old daughter was in the vehicle and probably witnessed the horror of her mom being shot and killed in front of her.
  •
No it wasn't right to do that. Yes they were trying they could of shot somewhere else on her that wouldn't of killed her but just got her to stop what she was doing.
  •
They should have shot her in the arm or leg just to stop her but to kill her in front of her kid is wrong. But she was also wrong for bringing her child with and putting her in a dangerous situation.

Protests over boy killed holding a toy gun - 4 views

I know there were a lot of things that were against the teen and also against the cop. from what I know, i thought that police and such were supposed to give a warning....and does everyone these days just shoot to kill? Well, anyway, I was not there but I do know that in some situations, it is really hard to think first and act later if your life is in danger. So I don't really know where my thoughts lie with this, there could have been many differnet outcomes though.
  •
It's sad and scary to know that society should have to be like this. And people are so afraid. But I agree with Ladasia why shoot to kill? they could of went about the situation a different way.
  •
after watching the video I think that not only the officer that shot him should get charges but i think that the company that made the toy gun should be sewed since it's required by law to put a orange cap on fake guns.
  •
I don't think it was right to shoot him and kill him. I wish there was another way that people could be arrested or taken down without having to use a gun. There needs to be some kind of way we could shoot something into the person to make them faint or something. So then at least someone wouldn't die, and then they could be taken in for further questioning to the reasoning of why they did what they did. This is a hard one to pick what opinion is right. I'm on both sides.
  •
They should have went for an injuring shot and not a kill one. Maybe this young man would still be alive today.

She murdered more people than Jeffrey Dahmer and in a shorter time period too. Wow.
  •
I'm not too sure how credible the story is. But, if it is true how had they not have noticed any type of connection between victims? Say, area of killing, type of person they are, etc.
  •
At least she admits it. I think stories like this, are influenced by movies!
  •
The murderers are really young to have done something like that!
  •
She said she killed in Alaska and Florida, causing the police to investigate in both states. Which are probably the furthest states away. It would take a while for the police to investigate the cases. I think that she is trying to gain attention and possibly delay her trial.
  •
This is crazy! Who could do something like that?
  •
so she must have put a lot of thought into the murders so she could spare her self more time with the states working together
  •
I think that this is crazy! How can she just sit there and say her and her husband had this planned since they met... Kinda stupid and maybe even a little psycho.
  •
that's crazy! its a good thing they caught her. who knows how many more people she would have killed if she was still out there.
  •
She said that the police wont find full bodies, only body parts.. from a wide range of ages starting at 13! The couple have had plans to kill together, but the victims never showed up. Barbour said she knew they were going to kill someone together since the day they met! How can someone even have the slightest thought of something like this!!
  •
She's heading to prison as a young girl. She wants to be labeled as crazy as possible.
  •
    Women are crazy.
  •
    At least she admits it.
  •
I seriously don't think she was able to kill just over twenty men since she was thirteen without one getting away or fighting her back. She'd have to take the men by surprise and even then, I don't think a thirteen year old would have successfully committed a murder and got away with it. I think she is just trying to prolong her trial and send the police on a search for the bodies or parts of these individuals she killed. Regardless, one life is time is prison twenty is a couple lifetimes.
  •
I think you can never be too careful with people on craisglist.. It is full of many people who don't always tell the truth and they are on there for the wrong reasons. There has always been scary problems with Craigslist
  •
This was interesting to me, the way she admits to something but the process is taking longer to find her guilty. It's just weird to me that the girl admitted to something more but she's still being questioned. I also think it's a little sketchy that it took her two months and then she finally came out with the story and the locations where she killed them. She did state 2 people got away so finding them would help.

This is absolutely crazy! This is a perfect example of police crossing the line of authority. He was killed because he wouldn't shut off the truck. His dad was trying to teach him a lesson, not kill him.
  • ...14 more comments...

I agree with Hayli, I don't understand why they had to shoot at him they could of shot at the tires or somewhere on the truck. so many killings have been happening by miss observations and cops killing innocent people.
  •
This is a total abuse of power. There are so many other ways you could stop a driver. They should have backed off like Ames suggested
  •
Just because you have a right to have a gun and fire if needed, doesn't mean you should every time a person isn't cooperating.
  •
Yet again another case where the police have gone to far. With the government protection will these cases ever stop? Yeah they fire one guy then the next day you hear about it in a different state. Where is the punishment?
  •
I agree with Ladasia it is another example of total abuse of power.
  •
This is a great example of the police abusing there power. Yet there is no consequences for the police that shot a 19 year old that would not turn off his truck engine.
  •
The police should be fined and fired from their jobs! They abused their power.
  •
another example of abuse of there power
  •
To pursue a stolen vehicle and pull them over is one thing but to need your weapons at all when the father is the one who called the police and use that much force is pointless and life wasting as we can see.
  •
They shot at a person who was unarmed and wasn't trying to hurt anybody, yet they chased him down and killed him like a criminal. This doesn't make sense.
  •
I agree with Hayli because all he was doing was teaching a lesson! Not try to kill him!
  •
This is a terribly unfortunate story. But I agree with the decision that the policemen made. The boy was driving recklessly and not cooperating on a college campus. If it had escalated much more they would have been putting the university in danger.
  •
Not the best story I've heard..thoughts and heart goes out to the family..
  •
Where was the escalation, Jackson? They could have smoked him out, they have tassers, there are all sorts of non-lethal things Cops are trained in for this kind of situation. Yet here they with out their guns and mow him down with shots to the head. There was no need for that.
  •
Sad stuff out there. And it kinda hits home considering this took place here in Iowa...
  •
Not that I want to admit it, but last year I got in HUGE trouble because I told my mothers car multiple times without permission. What if they would have wanted to teach me a lesson? Would I get killed just because I had a moment of bad decisions? This makes me think how easily this could have been me.

South Carolina Officer Is Charged With Murder of Walter Scott - 6 views

  •
I just don't understand why deadly force such as a gun was used against man who was unarmed, not verified as dangerous and stopped for a traffic violation. I know police are trained with other tactics to stop an unarmed person from fleeing. Fears for his life? I didn't know someone running from you was so scary.
  •
I agree that this officer should be charged with murder. Its shocking because police officers never get punished for things they do are are unjustified. Weather the man took his taser or not, it didn't have to go to extent of being shot and being killed. But from the reading, it says that the taser fell to the ground and to police officer still fires at him 8 times. I completely agree with what happened, it's not usual that police get in trouble for some of the things they do.
