Trump outlines plan to get Mexico to pay for border wall - 2 views

  •
Trump outlined the steps his administration would undertake to compel Mexico to pay the U.S. "$5-10 billion" to fund a border wall in a memo his campaign released Tuesday morning -- a plan that relies largely on threatening to bar undocumented Mexican immigrants in the United States from wiring money to relatives in Mexico. -I think that Trump is basically blackmailing Mexico to pay for the wall between the two countries. I also really don't like that he said that him and his supporters have a moral high ground advantage because that is not true. In order to have a moral high ground advantage that would require you to have moral respect and several people, including myself, think his presidential promises and credentials are immoral.

Kavanaugh’s confirmation all but assured - POLITICO - 7 views

  •
I still find it quite astonishing that he was confirmed onto the Supreme Court, just for the sole fact that his accusations were those of pretty serious ones. No matter if he was found guilty or not, I believe that people will still have that distrust in him, which is really hard since he should be looked up to as the highest honorary power in the United States.
  •
I think its astonishing that even after he was found not guilty you still believe he shouldn't be on the supreme court. He's had a pretty good run in the court systems working as a clerk and a partner in a law firm he was nominated to be a judge by George W Bush. Now he's on the supreme court. I'd say that's a pretty successful career. But he shouldn't have this job due to accusations?I believe that's wrong
  •
I think Kavanaugh being accepted was the right decision. The accusations that the women had made about him were not proven to be true nor false so you can't punish a man for something he possibly didn't do, innocent until proven guilty. The women also came forward right as they heard he was in the running to be on supreme court, the actions that they took was very suspicious.

It's not just Facebook. Thousands of companies are spying on you (opinion) - CNN - 4 views

  •
"But for every article about Facebook's creepy stalker behavior, thousands of other companies are breathing a collective sigh of relief that it's Facebook and not them in the spotlight. Because while Facebook is one of the biggest players in this space, there are thousands of other companies that spy on and manipulate us for profit."

Fun fact: on Facebook, there's a place in the settings where you can actually see what it believes your interests to be, including what it thinks your stance is on American politics.
  •
I spoke to a friend who said that she woke up to an email saying her facebook information had been accessed and seen by a large number of other sources, outside of facebook. She said the cause of this was one of her facebook friends downloaded an app and all the friends of this person had gotten the same email about their information. It is just wrong how so many different companies are taking their users for advantage.
  •
I found this new information within the article to be very disturbing, and yet, there are some aspects that I'm not surprised about. I have already comprehended the fact that Google can track all of your searches and that causes ads to be related to your own interests but for media to constantly monitor my actions just from my phone? That's disturbing once you think and look into it.
  •
I was watching a video actually on Facebook and this couple heard about facebook stalking people so they decided to talk about cat food for 3 days with facebook open and offline then they opened it one day to cat food adds on their facebook which is really creepy to me.

Trump says we need more nuclear weapons, while everyone else who works with them thinks that there is no point, that we also have a treaty with Russia not to have more than 1,550. Does he not think or find out things before he speaks?

"Lawmakers in the Iowa Senate have approved a bill that would ban most abortions at the first detectable fetal heartbeat."

i think this is a good bill because alot of people take advantage of getting rid of a baby. if a heartbeat is detected i dont think you should be able to get rid of it. just have it and put it up for adoption for people who cant have kids.

I can't help but say that the debates are where we see the best/worst in a candidate not when were watching the news or reading a paper.
  •
I think that in this case they are just like getting back at each other and being dramatic like that isn't what presidency is about at all, and if they are being childish now who knows what the future holds, nobody wants a childish president.
  •
The debates have effected very little votes this time around, not to mention, the candidates just bicker like nine year old kids. It's a waste of everyone's time, we don't learn any more about their ideas, we just hear them attack each other on how one deleted emails and how the other is sexist and wants to build a wall.
  •
In the debate they were trying to attack each other and their private stuff like the emails Clinton had deleted and Trump saying he hasn't paid taxes and they haven't said anything about their plans to "try" and make America great again.
  •
The debates - at least so far - have only helped Hillary's increase of voters. It appears that more and more people are figuring out that Donald Trump can be compared to that kid in elementary school who always has the same comback of "I know you are but what am I?". Personally, I don't like either of our candidates because I'm against some of both of their views, but I believe the debates are a waste of time. The largest reason people watch - in my opinion - is to see how many times Trump will interrupt Hillary, and how much they bicker.
  •
The 2 candidates in my opinion are very in maturate. Neither of them should be running for president. Also I think more people are starting to realize how bad Trump is for our country because Hillary's increase of voters.
  •
The debates have only proven that voters are now leaning more toward Hillary instead of Donald Trump because it brought up his past statements and views.

Poll: Trump approval falls as majority of Americans brace for recession - POLITICO - 1 views

  •
Even if his approval rating drops at all, I don't believe people are going to stop saying he's a "great" president.
  •
I think it's interesting that the article claims Americans are bracing for a recession. We have a record high DOW Jones stock, unemployment is decreasing (more than 20 million new jobs since 2010), and Americans, in general, have more money in their pockets than we did 3 years ago. https://ig.ft.com/sites/numbers/economies/us/ It also piques my interest that the article claims the Trump approval rating as a whole is falling. After the democratic debates, Donald Trump has only increased in followership, rally attendance, etc. This is the reason people keep saying he's a "great" president. You might not like him as a person, I might not like him as a person, but if he continues to put a dent in the public debt, and continues to uphold basic constitutionalist ideals, he will continue to see success in America. I think it's interesting and I predict that the 2020 election will play out very similarly to the 2016 election. The democratic party did everything in their power to stop Trump from becoming president. Both Republicans and Democrats alike turned to personal attacks and scandals. Even if all the candidates are bad, we have to pick the best one. Trump was able to win against the Democrats because they didn't have any solid plans with evidence for the policies they wanted to implement. Trump has an upper-hand because he's never changed too. Democrats have flipped like no other when it comes to policies because they are desperate to be approved of by the younger masses. Trump has always supported a smaller government, focused on the economy, and wanted stricter foreign relations. The same cannot be said about Democrats, their talking points are that of enabling a welfare state, stripping citizens of their 2nd amendment rights, and their false sense of acceptance. tl;dr: orange man bad, but doing his job well.

Rats are being trained to detect explosives. - 18 views

  •
SWEET!! But I bet the people making bombs will make the trigger's more sensitive...but for now, the rats are a good alternative and cheaper too. What I am wondering is, how effective are rats at "letting" people know where there is a bomb. In this article/video, they placed a "test" bomb on the ground and the rat sniffed it out, but did they know only when the rat made it to the bomb and assume the rat had found their planted bomb and then rewarded the rat? Or did they wait for the rat to give them a "sign"?
  • ...3 more comments...
  •
Rats are both smart and cute. I think it would be pretty cool if rats could detect bombs... They're the second smartest rodent in the world; they could make a hole in someones wall, and leave it alone for about an hour and then return to that hole, unlike mice who would get confused and make a different hole in the wall. Rats would be pretty easy to train to detect bombs, then give humans signs. I think this would be great.
  •
I like the idea of them using a smaller animal and one that is also intelligent because that is less money and less of a worry of putting larger animals in a more risky situation.
  •
If only all rats were trained to detect bombs. New York would be set...
  •
why not just let the rats run over the bombs to be able to blow up the bombs and it won't be a problem anymore.
  •
Because if the rats set off the bombs they would destroy whatever the bomb was put to destroy? Obviously that is a horrible idea.

Branstad signs laws restricting wages, workers' compensation - 2 views

  •
"Gov. Terry Branstad has signed into law a ban on local governments raising the minimum hourly wage and another law changing Iowa's workers' compensation system."
  •
I think it was reasonable for Gov. Terry Branstad to place a law on banning minimum wage increase. We have a good minimum wage that meets the circumstances of living in iowa. It's not nearly as expensive as other big cities like Chicago or San Diego. I also think it was good he took into account the workers' compensation.

Trump: 'All options on table' after N. Korea launch - CNNPolitics - 5 views

This is very sad. People need to stop thinking that hurting each other is the answer to solving your problems.

Why do people do this kind of stuff?

I'm curious if this is linked to a specific terrorist group or not. They say the culprit has ties to Kyrgstan, but no terrorist groups have come forward to claim responsibility yet.

Trump: 'All options are on table' after NK missile launch - ABC News - 9 views

  •
I think North Korea was trying to taunt Japan in a way. The missile flew only over the airspace, instead of being a direct hit on their soil.

I think we should take action to this because they could be testing nukular missiles to use against the U.S.A

Stockton's mayor wants to give residents $500 a month, no strings attached - Oct. 27, 2017 - 21 views

I feel like if the whole nation did this and then cut everything else we would literally just be back at square one. It would not make a difference.
  •
This is crazy. This could help so much. We could get rid of welfare it that could be just like welfare.
  •
this is a very good idea and the results can be awesome and could chage and save lives from a lot of bad stuff. but we need to find a way to fund this idea. i think if we use the welfare money to fund it. we could get rid of the welfare and then we can make sure every one is taken care of with the basic income instead.
  •
I feel this would benefit so many people so much. And besides they say Canada is a pretty well-off country, so why not do this?
  •
i think that this would be good for some people to get this money like this to help them through tough times
  •
This is a great idea. Many people do not have the money to get by even though they might work long hours. The only problem is that some people will abuse this, and by drugs or alcohol, or even lottery tickets.
  •
The people could benefit from this so they could use it will bills, grocers, and things they need, but on the other hand they could miss use the money you are handing out. So is this a good thing? or not?
  •
This could definitely help the poor family's who don't have enough money.

  •
This is good because who wants to be alive if the only way they can stay alive is if they're hooked up to a bunch of machines just laying in bed. Also costing money for everyone involved with it
  •
I think that someone who is terminally ill and is in pain everyday due to it should have the right to choose when they die.

I feel like if someone's on life support and are suffering day in and day out they should have the right to end their life peacefully if they're in that much pain.

Former South Carolina officer to sentenced in killing of unarmed black man - CNN - 12 views

  •
"In May, Slager pleaded guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law after a murder trial ended in a mistrial. He admitted he didn't shoot Scott in self defense and said he used excessive force. Federal prosecutors are seeking a life sentence. Prosecutors believe Slager committed second-degree murder and should also be punished for obstructing justice."
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I think those punishments are completely necessary and he deserves it. There's stories like this all the time but a lot of cops won't admit to not shooting them for self defense.
  •
I think that the officer should get life in prison for killing this man. The man ran but there's other options than firing your gun at him, there was no threat to the officer, he was unarmed, and the officer said he used force that was unnecessary.
  •
The cop shouldn't of shot the man in the back, there was no threat towards the officer. If the man pulled a knife or a gun out then I'll see why the police officer shot him, but because the man had no weapons on him and was just running way he shouldn't of gotten shot.
