Tavis Coburn is a Canadian illustrator and graphic designer, obsessed with anything from sub-retro design periods. Since graduating from Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, Coburn has created countless works for leading publishing, advertising and music companies around the world, such as Footlocker, NFL, Time Magazine, and The Discovery Channel. His style is a unique blend of 1940s comic book art, Russian avant-garde and 1950s prints and each work is is created by an involved process of painting, digital design, and hand silkscreening.

The Athenaeum is building a set of online tools for studying the humanities. Whether you are an armchair historian, a teacher, or just someone with an interest in history, archaeology, philosophy, or the arts, we hope to provide new ways to explore and interact with all sorts of material. Esther Havens is a humanitarian documentary photographer who focuses on social-awareness campaigns with non-profits around the globe, capturing stories that transcend a person's circumstance that reveal the strength of an individual regardless of the situation in which they find themselves. Esther has traveled extensively to over 40 countries and seeks to open hearts and minds to see the third world conditions in a way that might challenge them to make a difference. Her photographs have been displayed in various exhibits across the country. She currently resides in Austin, Texas and New York City and continues to travel on assignment.

Brad Elterman's career started with a borrowed camera at the age of 16. His first photo, of Bob Dylan performing onstage, was published in 1974. That lead to endless nights of covering the rock scene in Hollywood encompassing pop, punk and rock bands including the Faces with Rod Stewart, David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, the Runaways, Kiss, Queen, Blondie, the Ramones, the Bay City Rollers, Abba, Boney M, Kenny Rogers, The Who, Leif Garrett, Michael Jackson, etc.

CoBrA was formed thanks to the joining of forces of three experimental groups under the leadership of Christian Dotrement and Asger Jorn in 1948. The group took its name from the first letters of three prominent European cities - Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam - and a manifest was drawn up and afterwards signed in Paris by the group's founding participants, Jorn, Dotrement, Noiret, Appel, Constant and Corneille, at a little café.

Karl Meersman (born 1961) is a Belgian editorial cartoonist, living in Sint-Niklaas. He is known for his weekly caricatures in the popular magazines Trends and Knack. Since 2004, Meersman lives with former VRT journalist Lies Martens

He was a star in his days, but now he seems to be largely forgotten, along with all the other heroes of the pop art movement. Still, Guy Peellaert made some pretty impressive paintings (the Rock Dreams series literally rocked), and the quintessential pop art comic, Pravda. And he was a Belgian, potferdekke !
