Microsoft Surface Pro 6 12.3-Inch Tablet - (Silver) (Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SS... - 0 views

A fast and powerful laptop masquerading as a tablet, the Surface Pro leans more to work than play and is well up for competing with most desktops. Set up is ridiculously easy and very quick. You'll feel at home straight away. The Surface Pro comes to life very quickly and the battery life is impressive. Overall, there's very little here not to like. The Surface Pro will do whatever you do with your desktop or laptop PC very well and in the evening, you can rip off the keyboard and let your hair down with it. Hardly mentioned in the product descriptions are the two cameras, front and rear. The rear camera is 8 megapixels, which might not sound like much by today's standards but from which you could easily get some good quality prints. The default camera is the 5-megapixel front camera as this is a machine designed with Skype in mind. I found the built-in speakers and dual microphones handled Skype calls faultlessly. Small niggles are that it's a little heavy and while the screen offers great picture quality, it is very far from glare free. More seriously, I was lucky enough to be given a keyboard with the machine I'd been asked to review and this really is essential as, without it, you might as well have bought a much cheaper tablet. The magnets on the type cover are so strong, it practically connects itself, which is nice. But those covers are expensive and the keys are reminiscent of a Sinclair ZX Spectrum; you could buy a Bluetooth keyboard for a fraction of the price and enjoy a far better typing experience. I tried typing on screen but it's infuriating and only good for the shortest email. I don't have a Surface Pen, so I can't comment on that functionality or how it feels in studio mode, but I'm keen to try so, hopefully, Father Christmas will come through for me....
