SOLO Taxonomy - 5 views

  •
SOLO, which stands for Structure of Observed Learning Outcome, provides a systematic way of describing how a learner's performance grows in complexity when mastering many tasks. Suggested by @dougbelshaw as more relevant to 21st C schools than Bloom.
  •
I think this could fit in with the Welsh curriculum quite nicely

Something we need to bear in mind in our plans for #addcym I suspect

If it means that the 95% learn something that inproves the quality of teaching and learning then I can live with that. There might even be 'engagement creep' that will see the 5% grow.

Call to let staff spend time with the best- TES 15/04/11 - 2 views

  •
I was there & heard these talks. I wanted to talk about #addcym, TeachMeets, Twitter and all the excellent practice that is out there and the means that the professionals are going to to share. Clearly people presenting weren't aware of this which makes #addcym etc crucial to this sharing.
  •
Thanks Vicki. I wasn't there, but saw the ppts etc. Don't think the conclusions are rocket science, it's actually what we advocate already, and I think we should use precious money to fund the actions ( ie teachers sharing/visiting) rather than spending another year researching obvious and common sense solutions. That's IMHO obviously and all my own views!

Practical examples of getting the kind of immersion that Ewan was talking about in his article

Getting learners to co-construct as well. Immersion can lead to 'flow' which is total engagement or absorption which is fun and edifying.

Know a few schools loosely using it or adapting. Have you seen enquiring minds? link below
  •
Quick look. We used Opening Minds as loose inspiration for the SMART programme at Olchfa, and I went to a couple of the conferences. Thought the students that spoke were excellent. Didn't quite fit with what we were doing, but if I was starting again, this would be my starting point I think.
  •
We are going to be using this from September 2011. Any advice gratefully received.
  •
How are you planning on using it? Happy to give you some of the feedback from our experience of SMART.
  •
This looks interesting but haven't quite got to grips with how it might look in the classroom. I'd be interested in any examples.
  •
Have a look at the videos in this series from Teachers TV, some of them used Opening Minds. http://www.teachers.tv/series/ks3-new-curriculum
