Every day, more and more teachers are using the world-building game Minecraft to engage and educate. The game is a true phenomenon and gamers young and old are using it in countless creative ways. Guido van Robot, or GvR for short, is a programming language and free software application designed to introduce beginners to the fundamentals of programming. GvR runs on Windows, Macintosh, and GNU/Linux, in a variety of languages! It's great in both the classroom and the home as a way of introducing people to the basic concepts of programming.

Underfunded schools in Canada and other countries are using a new, inexpensive, Canadian-made networking software to provide computer access to more students for less money.

The two teachers, Betsy and Chinma, have been working together to create a course curriculum that will be implemented in their high school classrooms. Our goal is to expose high students (i.e. CS zero students) to Computer Science using App Inventor. The App Inventor curriculum should excite the students and therefore encourage them to continue studying Computer Science. We hope that this curriculum will become the catalyst that spurs students to attend college and major in Computer Science.
