    LSIS Wider Family Learning
    http://skillsforfamilies.excellencegateway.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=89&Itemid=101

    Nuggets:
Although it talks about material linked to FLIF, it does mention how these connect to major themes touched upon by other policies:

The materials link to Every Child Matters outcomes and focus on four areas:

    * community cohesion (including neighbourhood participation, community safety (especially issues around guns), gangs and knives)
    * health and wellbeing (including sport, healthy eating)
    * arts and culture (including encouraging reading, museum work)
    * sustainable development (including global trade, sustainable living).

Awareness of positive activities needs to be improved
    http://www.cypnow.co.uk/news/ByDiscipline/Youth-Work/login/925862/

The government is urging local authorities to improve awareness of positive activities in their areas to increase participation following research published this week. Aug 09 - 2009

The research , commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), said low awareness of available activities, peer pressure, lack of self-confidence and lack of time all acted as barriers to positive activities. Researchers questioned 144 young people aged 13 to 19 for the study, which found that despite barriers when young people did participate in activities they were enjoyable, allowed them to socialise, and helped them to feel good. Children's minister Dawn Primarolo said:...

    Nugget:
we could connect "awareness" - with FLF and perhaps look at some youth activities? - urban dancing, wot else? ;-)

Eliz - this been kindly donated & pasted from one of Rach

Two ideas that I have for 'quick grants' are:

Awards for All: http://www.awardsforall.org.uk/england/index.html which funds small-scale projects (up to £10k) and funding for story-telling projects, which are particularly aimed at families of disabled children: http://www.mla.gov.uk/what/programmes/setting_pace/festival%20of%20storytelling

I guess you could also see what local grant-making trusts would be able to offer funding?
