Meditation kept the Wild Boars calm, composed and safe - G News - 0 views

  •
The details of the great escape of Thai junior football team and their coach 'wild boars' are emerging out slowly. The boys and their coach entered the caves to explore on June 23rd and were trapped deep inside the cave complex as rains flooded the caves. Till July 2nd their whereabouts were not known. The British divers found them alive on a ledge in darkness. What struck the divers is their calm demeanour. In spite of staying in the darkness and with very low levels of food the boys did not panic. There is a reason for that. When the wild boars were found they were all meditating. Their coach, the real hero of the whole high drama that followed, was a Buddhist monk before he took the responsibility to coach the football team. Earlier the coach Ekapol Chanthawong spent a decade practising as a monk and is a practitioner of meditation. The coach and his team remained calm by meditating. Meditation kept the team healthy and strong. Mother of one of the trapped boy Chanin, Aisha Wiboonrungrueng was all praise for the coach. She was astonished watching the first video of the boys and said "Look at how calm they were sitting there waiting, No one was crying or anything. It was astonishing. Meditation kept the Thai boys trapped in a cave astonishingly calm". READ:Thai cave rescue to be made into a film A meditation expert Leah Weiss who was taught by the Dalai Lama said that the practice of meditation played a key role in keeping the group composed and alive. She was of the opinion that the meditation imparts mental training that improves focus and compassion. Weiss said " "For Buddhists, meditation is a go-to when distressed or in danger. Cognitive resources that would otherwise be hijacked by the threat can be accessed once again, meaning that problem-solving capacities increase." She further added that " Given that insufficient air and food was a major issue for the trapped boys, meditation is actually a very practical response to both of these c
