amit sharma on 16 Aug 12The stigma and the rostellum represent the gynoecium of the orchid flower. The column in normal flowers bears on its anterior face a hollow glossy cavity, which is the functional stigma. The stigma is three-lobed out of which the two lateral lobes are fertile, while the posterior lobe is absent or is modified.
