I guess this was inevitable, after all the newspaper industry has been called the "dead tree industry" for some time now (dead also indicating it's a dying industry). But as Ms. O'Dell says, "news as a commodity isn't going anywhere" and this only means that the NY Times is further transitioning into a tech company. Interesting times for the news industry.

If you are into online technology, you've certainly heard of Twitter by now. It seems many tech blogs can't get enough of how great Twitter is. The scene reminds me a bit of Facebook about 18 months ago. Apparently there's nothing Twitter can't do. The scientists have studied how magicians mix humor into their performances because a laughing audience is unable to pay attention to the magician's hand. The study also determined that there are various levels of misdirection that magicians use to trick an audience. These insights, which were previously unknown to scientists, suggest that humor and misdirection can help manipulate levels of attention.

Crystal says the concern over texting lingo has been greatly exaggerated; he says that on average, less than 10 percent of words in text messages are abbreviated.
