Dark Patterns: Deception vs. Honesty in UI Design - 0 views

  •
Although purposefully-deceptive design is more likely to occur on for-profit sites, I thought this was an interesting article about the subtle ways design can hamper usability. Interestingly, Scribd.com got called out for Baiting and Switching on a grassroots wiki that documents dark patterns: http://wiki.darkpatterns.org/Bait_and_Switch

PLEASE READ THIS FOR TIS BRANDING PURPOSES: This Austin company took EIGHT MONTHS to create their logo. They had their branding and creative statements already completed. I will be e-mailing, a second time, to everyone the branding document I created for TIS. Aaron asked that everyone be prepared to talk about the TIS branding for the 13 March, Thursday, TIS staff meeting.

Evaluating website accessibility part 3, Digging Deeper | 456 Berea Street - 0 views

  • There are no clearly defined rules for which characters to use as title separators. However, document titles should definitely not contain punctuation used for decorative purposes, for instance “:: Title ::” or “…== Title ==…”.

The Royal Marines / Royal Navy Website - 2 views

  •
We are not the demographic of this site. So, even if the topic doesn't appeal to all of us, the success of the site is well documented. Since the site's creation, the Royal Marines and Royal Navy have seen huge increases in qualified candidates and in meeting their recruitment goals. The case study of this site dealt with two main issues brought from the Client: 1) LOTS OF INFORMATION: One of the major successes of this site is that the target audience said they felt they were given all the information they needed to make their decision on joining the Royal Marines. 2) INTERACTIVITY: The site is PACKED with interactive elements: tests, maps, checklists, etc. ALSO OF NOTE: Gotta love the "English manner" in the way they tell you about cookies from their site (at the top of the homepage when you first arrive at the site). Click on "More About Cookies" and see how much info they provided.
