Factitious, an online game developed by American University's JoLT group (a partnership between the university's GameLab and School of Communication which investigates connections between journalism and game design), helps individuals learn how to identify fake news. Players first visit the game's web page that features tips for detecting fake news to gain background knowledge about how to identify fake news. Then, on another web page of the game, players read portions of articles from the internet. With each article, players swipe left if they think the article is fake or right if they think the article is genuine.
