Where to Get Quality Boat Repairs After Storm Damage? - 5 views

Hey everyone, after that last big storm rolled through, I noticed some damage on my center console-minor hull scuffing, loose rails, and some electrical issues with my nav lights and bilge pump. I'm not looking for a full rebuild, but I do want to bring it to someone who takes storm damage seriously and doesn't just patch it up temporarily. Especially when it comes to wiring-I'd rather get it done right than chase down shorts later while I'm on the water. I live near Clear Lake, so I'm hoping to find a shop in the area that's experienced with post-storm repairs and also works with insurance if needed. Have any of you gone through this recently? I know a few shops are swamped right now, so if anyone's had a good experience and a decent turnaround time, I'd appreciate a recommendation. Bonus if they do a proper inspection for hidden water intrusion or stress cracks.

I've been in the same boat-literally. After last season's heavy rain and high winds, my skiff came out with electrical glitches and a cracked stern cleat. I ended up taking it to this https://marinabayharbor.com/clear-lake-boat-service-center/ in Clear Lake, and they were fantastic. They didn't just replace the cleat-they reinforced the transom area around it, checked for underlying stress, and resealed a few joints I didn't even know had been compromised. For the electrical side, they ran voltage diagnostics and cleaned up some corroded connections that would've failed within weeks. What I really liked is that they're proactive-they document everything and call before doing anything major, so there are no surprises. They also work with most marine insurance carriers, which saved me a headache with paperwork. If your nav lights and pump are acting up, they'll get to the root cause. Highly recommend them post-storm.

Thanks, that's super helpful. I've been hesitant to bring mine in after noticing some rattling in the console and a couple of soft deck spots-I figured it might be overkill to take it to a service center, but clearly it's worth having a pro look at it. Especially if they catch damage I'm missing. I'm also dealing with intermittent battery drain, which I suspect might be from water intrusion into my fuse panel during the storm. It's been acting weird ever since. If this shop runs proper diagnostics and goes deeper than surface-level repairs, I'm all in. Do they also offer pickup or do you have to trailer it in? I'm not far from Clear Lake but would need to coordinate transport. Either way, good to know there's a reliable team nearby who takes storm recovery seriously-not just cosmetic fixes. Appreciate the heads-up!
