Throwing this out there: we're juggling nights with my granddad in Keene, NH. He's mostly okay during the day, but after midnight he gets restless and tries to get up on his own. Family can rotate a few evenings, yet it's wearing us out, so we're weighing an overnight caregiver or even 24/7 for a month to see how it goes. Has anyone used an agency like TLC HomeCare for night coverage? Curious about wake vs. sleep shifts, backup when someone calls out, and how nurse oversight actually works.

We did exactly this last month in central VT. Started with an in-home visit, then a nurse built a short plan focused on safety checks, bathroom assists, and calm routines from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. First week was a "trial" with notes at shift change so days stayed consistent. When our regular aide took PTO, a backup filled in without drama. I first bumped into TLC while reading about travel nursing, and their site helped me understand how 24/7 rotations and case management are set up in VT/NH. Tip: ask for a written handoff template, and request one overnight "shadow" before committing long-term.

Dropping in as a neighbor who's helped a few older friends: little night tweaks make a big difference no matter which agency you pick. A low hallway light on a motion sensor, a clear path to the bathroom, socks with grip, and a comfy chair near the bedroom door kept one friend from pacing. We also set a simple bedside card with "water, glasses, phone, call button" so everything's within reach. Even a two-night trial can show what feels natural before you lock in a schedule.
