How to Teach Your Dog Basic Commands - 3 views

#1 barrybee on 26 Dec 24Hey everyone! I've been trying to teach my dog some basic commands like "sit" and "stay," but it's been a bit challenging. I got my dog a couple of months ago, and he's super energetic, so getting him to focus for even a few seconds can be tough! I've been trying to use treats, but sometimes it feels like he's more interested in just playing with them than actually listening to me. Have any of you had this issue? How did you manage to get your dog to pay attention and learn the basics? Maybe there's something I'm missing. Thanks for any advice!

What worked for me was breaking down the training into really short sessions, no more than 5-10 minutes at a time, so he wouldn't get bored or distracted. Positive reinforcement with treats definitely helps, but you might also want to try using a clicker-it's an easy way to mark the right behavior and makes it clearer for your dog. I found some great tips on how to train basic commands, and it helped me a lot with keeping my dog engaged. My friend has a puppy, and I know she's trying to teach him "sit" and "stay," but she's struggling with consistency. It seems like puppies have a shorter attention span than older dogs. I've heard that starting young is important, but it can be difficult. Also, does anyone have tips for reinforcing these commands outside in a busy environment, like at the park? I'm sure that could be tricky too!
